in about two weeks I'll be backpacking around europe for 4-6 weeks. I'm landing in london, and I intend to go to stockholm at some point, but beyond that I don't have any specific plans for this trip. I just want to see everything and get a better understanding of the world, myself, etc. this community attracts a lot of overseas members and I figure people could enlighten me on.. whatever. I don't even know what I'm looking for in this thread, I'm just trying to absorb as much people have to offer as possible.

The two points you've listed so far would give you a decent overview of the north, but there's more to see. In particular, places I'd recommend you visit if your itinerary allows you to are
- Biarritz/Bayonne (France's southwestern corner)/San Sebastián (Spain's northeast, next to it)
- Vienna
- Rome (though I've never been there myself, it's supposed to be highly interesting, one of the cradles of western civilization etc.)
- Amsterdam
- Helsinki, and the landscape around it
(- Berlin if you want to pay me a visit, but it's in a lower league than the above-mentioned in terms of "interestingness" as a city)
Also, the alps (the Austrian ones if you prefer people to speak something that can be considered English if you have an open mind, otherwise the French bit of them) as a more vaguely defined target are definitively worth dropping by.

Backpacking, eh? Don't do what I did and pack four giant cans of beans in there before you leave. It'll tire you really fast and annoy others rather quickly. In more ways than one.

Anyways, I believe blackhole89 has given the best possible advice here, as I've never been outside my own country and it's nowhere near where you're going anyway. Not to mention, I'm shitty at geography. =p

Sure, if it doesn't grossly collide with my schedule in some way (which would, essentially, mean "in the four days starting next Monday" - while I'm currently in the process of moving to Berlin, I'll have to be in Dresden on those days for the sake of handling some pending formalities). I'm too curious about meeting people from afar, the internet, or any combination of both for my own good.

I feel the same way, but nobody is near me except for Muldoon. Even then my serious lack of good transportation and availability within my schedule prevents me as well. Not to mention funds... I suck at rl.

How does that relate to meeting people from the internet? My point was that there wasn't anyone near me. I live in AZ, and everyone (except Muldoon and I) are smart as hell to stay away from this place. Actually, even Muldoon is smart because at least he's in the mountains.

Easy.

1. While in the womb, boot your goddamned idiot mother in the side of the stomach until you manage to kick her into the next state.
2. ???
3. Be born.
4. Profit!

You're kidding right? Europe's gas is quite a few times more expensive than in the US. (10 euros for a gallon of Diesel )

But yeah, I think if you like the cold, you might want to visit Iceland or Oslo, Norway. I've heard Iceland is beautiful, but I haven't gone there ...

Florence, Italy - Looks cool, I like the city a lot (you might want to consider Rome though )
Paris, France - You can't just go to Europe and not visit Paris!
Amsterdam, Netherlands - You should definitely see this city, it's awesome and beautiful!

According to Google, it's roughly five, i.e. $7.5.

Iceland reportedly has an exceptionally beautiful countryside, but is not really anywhere near the mainland.
