So, I don't know if it's because we're just inured to it where I'm from (near Cleveland) or what, but it seems to me that people here in Columbus can't deal with any weather whatsoever. It's ridiculous! Tonight at the bar, they literally had everyone go to the basement for a fucking tornado warning.

It was pretty bad in the winter, when they couldn't clear the main fucking road of the city of snow. Also, I had never heard of a "snow emergency", let alone 3 different levels of it before I came here. I'm pretty sure this city is just entirely incompetent and/or underfunded when it comes to dealing with weather.

The weather in England has been darting between boiling hot and windy/cold. It's annoying, but, it keeps you on your toes

Quickly like that, I can see two things, among many others:

1) When a country/region/city/whatever is not accustomed to have a certain type of weather change, it will, obviously, not be as well prepared as with common weather forecasts. In countries with lots of snow, cities are organized with that in mind. Snow plowers drivers are on the ready as soon as winter shows the tip of the nose. Countries with tornadoes have facilities and centers to foresee them and hide from them. Etc...

2) Global weather disruptions (the thing erroneously called "global warming"), caused by pollution and probably other things, make weather unforeseeable anywhere in the world. Air currents can be created and mobilized in unpredictable ways...

I'm from Nebraska, severe whether means go outside and watch the fun, not go run for cover. Since Ohio is kind in Tornado alleyish area, I'm surprised everyone went running for cover, but I guess I could see it. It is a Warning. Now if it was a watch, I'd seriously make fun of them in no time at all for being little sissy boys and girls... I here watch, I hate the weatherman for wasting my life with useless information, I here warning, I go get a lawn chair and enjoy the show.

Although, I did have parents that always made me go into the basement during warnings while they sat outside and watched. Maybe I was a bit envious or something.

/end endless babble

I often found the German system of dealing with snowfall ridiculously amateurish compared to what I experienced in Russia. Here, the first accumulating snow of the year regularly causes something not far from a countrywide deadlock.

The only weather-related emergency incident I recall, though, was when we were sent home from school after the fifth shift due to storm warning.

That's why I was surprised too, especially since Columbus is closer to Tornado Alley than Cleveland.

The weather here rarely fluctuates. It's almost always raining, except in the summertime, and when it's hailing.

Its been raining all the time where I'm at. Today it rained, and I'm pretty sure rain has been forecast for the next 4 days or so. Not to mention its been raining a ton since the 17th.

The saying here goes, "If you don't like Ohio weather, just wait a day" (or an hour. )

Sounds so familiar, but it's a 15 minute wait here in Oregon.

More like 12 hours though. It's been hot cold warm cold warm hot cold hot hot BURNING cold recently.

Funny thing is, they say the same thing here in Michigan.
