I was just thinking back to a prank that my friend Jonny and I pulled toward the end of the year.
The class elections take place only a few short days from the end of the year, so everyone has their "election" posters hanging. On the day of the elections, I decided on a whim at lunchtime to run a person that does not exist for ASB (all student body).
For the last three periods of the day, we had roughly 20 slogan posters (printed from school computers) hanging around the schools saying things like: "Who needs structure when you can have totalitarian rule? Vote Garry Edgewater (We have used this name before for a variety of other pranks, though none at a school-wide level) for dictator".
Within a single class period, everyone was asking, "Who's Garry Edgewater?". A few of our closer friends new, and kept telling everyone to vote for him.

After the last bell rang and we assembled in the student center, I peeled one of the posters from its spot on a door, and a different friend went with me to distract the principal while I affixed the poster on the podium. They discovered in a few minutes what we had done, but we knew that by now everyone had seen the banners.

The following day, I learned that Garry Edgewater had actually done a remarkable job stealing many of the votes. Obviously they refused to announce this on the intercom (who wants to hear they lost to a person that doesn't even exist?) but one of my teachers told me he stopped counting the Edgewater ballots after 20.

So then, what school pranks have you pulled and how well have they worked?

Oh, we also decided that sometime early this year, we are going to put some cave-drawing figures on the rocks in our schools courtyard.

One of the students in my class - who has a marginal connection to the hippie/green/"alternative" scene - was tasked with assembling our class' student list for the most recent yearbook and sneaked Albert Hofmann on it (note date of death). Albert successfully made it and went on to have a bit of a carreer as a mystery occupier of seats in school events, time slots for finals consultations and what-not at the hands of those who were in on the prank.

Ooh hey, I just thought up another great one.
The roof of my school's office building is circular, and the beams supporting it reach down to the ground on all sides.
Sometime closer to the end of the year I'll have to get a few buddies to eat lunch on teh roof with me.

Meh, not too much of a prank, but enough to irritate school officials.

I've also considered dropping a bag of Oregano in the school courtyard.

I never do wide-spread pranks. I always only affect one specific person.

One of my friends has an eye problem, wherein he cannot see the color red effectively. It blends into the background terribly, and on solid black backgrounds he cannot see it at all. Usually the NFL Blitz machine in the campus cafeteria has no video at all, so people challenge themselves to "Blind Blitz," wherein they play while not having the slightest clue what's going on (unless they have really good memory and have played the game too much.) Sometimes, however, the movement gets to be that the red elements will show up, but nothing else. It is at these times that I challenge this friend to Blind Blitz.

Another friend of mine is a mildly annoying guy. He used to be much, much more annoying, but now he's quite tolerable, and a cool person at times. Just the same, he ever so often sets his backpack down and asks people to watch it. As soon as he's out of the room, I like to go up, take it, and put it in a closet not two feet from where it started. I don't think I've ever not done this. The looks of panic on his face before I get it for him are pretty cool. He should probably stop having so much faith in me.

There's lots of computer labs around, and everyone has their own account. You're supposed to log off when you're done... But some people don't always pay attention when logging off, and a program asks if it should save or just discard what they've done, so they just leave while they haven't logged off. A popular thing to do when you stumble upon to someone who isn't logged off is to take a picture of David Hasselhoff and set it as a web implement covering their desktop - most people don't know how to undo this, as it's not actually changing their desktop, it's a bit more involved. I, however, go one further - I take a screenshot of their desktop with nothing on it, set that picture as their desktop, hide desktop icons, and hide the start bar. I also change their mouse sensetivity, and their mouse icons, and the overall windows scheme. Another cool thing is setting the mousewheel to scroll a page for every notch, rather than three lines. Some people have different keyboard setups available - if they do, I always make sure to change that, too.

I have more, but I don't feel like getting into it. Send me a private message if you want to know anything else.

This is pure genius. Seriously, I'm going to remember this for next year.
Unfortunately my school uses Novell which won't allow you to change settings such as keyboard (without the permission of 500 system admins) .

This also reminds me of a prank that some people pull (only works on freshmen) when you flip the direction of the screen (CTRL+ALT+arrow key on school comps). Anyone who's had it done to them once knows the trick.

You mean "only works on people that don't know how to work a computer".

No, everyone who has passed freshman year knows the trick... Though I suppose "freshman" and "incompetent" are synonymous...

More like "person" and "stupid"/"incompetent" are synonymous...

Was him not going to that school this year anymore related to the 1000 pages of goatse in any way?

I've never been part of any kind of prank, nor seen any prank pulled off at any of the high schools I went to. I was waaaay out in the boonies at the time, and the heat had melted our brains (Arizona) into meat with eyes.

I really calmed down a lot in college, but in high school I was probably a pain in the ass. There was this one kid that me and a couple of friends didn't exactly get along with, and that resulted in a couple of fun pranks.
He was like a big goth kid, so one time we found a note he wrote to his girlfriend. It was really really sappy, and totally went against his "dark" persona that he liked to have. So we made photocopies of it and hung them above all of the water fountains in the school.
The other one takes the cake though. We shoved a bunch of gay sex line advertisements from the local free city paper into his locker, and by a lot I mean if he opened his locker they would come spilling out all over the place. That wasn't the bad part though. We glued the combination lock shut so he had to go get a custodian to come over with the keys and open it for him. That one might have been kind of mean...

The only time I ever touched someone Else's locker maliciously was this one time I was having a bad day. This kid was pissing me off, so i took a donut and scraped it through the vents on his locker. Apparently it pissed him off bad enough to call down the dean of students...

Though you've undoubtedly seen it before: Creepy looking guy.

If it wasn't for the fact that my school only has about 200 students (therefore everyone knows me), I'd try something along this line.
I suppose I could always just drop fliers though...
