Here in Oregon, there is a longstanding rivalry with California (At least within the Willamette Valley). Anyone from California is frowned upon . The biggest problem are tourists (who would even want to visit Oregon?) who clog our roads with *generally* poor drivers.

So then, within your general area, are there any rivalries with other regions?

Last view: 4019 days 		The general consensus in Indiana is that Michigan drivers are godawful. I don't know how they feel about us Hoosiers but being that I'm on the frontlines (5 miles from Michigan) I see a lot of terrible driving when I'm in Michigan and it only gets worse the farther north I go. I guess you could call that a rivalry.

The main reason Oregonians don't want Californians is because of sales tax. They're coming here just to vote in sales tax.

Are you kidding? The West coast is one of the most liberal places I've ever seen.
But yeah, Washingtonians come down to Oregon sometimes to evade taxes, but that doesn't bother me as badly cause at least we get something out of the deal (illegal fireworks) .

But yeah, "oar-re-gone" pisses me off. They mis-pronounced it on the daily news once.

Also, I never knew you were from Oregon, Grey Mario.

In the territory of what was East Germany, there's a long-standing and at least somewhat true cliché of West Germans ("Wessies") being conceited and generally holding an opinion of "being from the superior part of Germany", although, at least in terms of infrastructure and general living quality, the reverse is often true. This also leads to a certain degree of two-party competition thinking between representatives of eastern and western states in federal science olympiads.

As for the US West Coast being liberal - well, I heard of rural Californians in particular being a rather conservative folk... the tendency to larger cities being politically more left-leaning seems to be global.
