Since when do starters have attacks that can do devastating damage on their first fight? Tackle, Growl, Leer or in Turtwig's case Withdraw... yeah not seeing any major type advantages there. Later in the game it becomes more of a Rock Paper Scissors thing. ____________________ Why are you reading this? My post is up there^ |

Posted by ShadowTailsThat's true, the type [dis]advantages usually don't come into play until after the first gym, and even then it's usually not a big thing until you're about 3-4 gyms in (all of this in reference to the rival). ____________________ |

The chart seems to be for Ruby and Sapphire.
I know for sure that the balance is drastically difference in the later games compared to the earlier games. So some of the confusion could be that people are adjusted to different generations of Pokémon. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

I don't think they've changed any type advantages since Gold/Silver added steel and dark (and made poison neutral against bug).
It's everything else that changed in the later games--the physical/special swap in D/P/P is the main offender here, although natures, abilities and the 510 EV cap in R/S/E/Fr/Lg created a major shift as well. ...Steel is super-effective against Rock. Always has been, probably always will be. The chart was misread. |

Posted by SkreenyI'm pretty sure Kawa said he would make a way to get trade-only evolutions from other means. ____________________ |

Posted by NightKevPosted by SkreenyI'm pretty sure Kawa said he would make a way to get trade-only evolutions from other means. Since there are always people helping you out in the game, if you start with a Machop or Geodude or Abra or whatever, have someone in the game who wants to trade them in particular. When you give them either Machoke, Graveler, etc, and it evolves, the person can change their mind because they really wanted a Machoke and not a Machamp, etc. I know this would make no sense, because obviously Machamp is better than Machoke, but maybe the person is a collector and wants a particular pokémon or a child or someone else who would not be a "pro" in pokémon and wouldn't know that Machamp is better, etc. Just a suggestion . ____________________ MathOnNapkins' Zelda 3 (ALttP) Hacking Forum on Arc-Nova: http://arc-nova.org/forum/index.php?board=7.0 |

Actually, I could put in NPC trades... Did you know that there's a special command in the original games that plays the trading cutscene and swaps two pre-chosen entries in the party data? I found it just after beating Misty and got her Staryu
Anyway, keep at it. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Just to be sure, are there any criteria other than no pre-evolved pokes (eg Starmie instead of Staryu) and elemental triplet? ____________________ |

Actually, all I want is the elemental triplets. The actual monsters may change. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

List made. I'll validate the entries later today and pick a nice one. So after building my own type match-up list from both the OP table and cross-referencing Fire Red's ingame help system I went through each suggested triplet and tried to find any possible chain of pwnage, completely ignoring the discussion surrounding them all because of un-trustworthy GameFaqs images. Having parsed each triplet, I took those that passed, threw away the rest and involved a now very tired friend to help rate the nominees and find G1 representatives. Congratulations, NightKev; you win credit. You're forgetting that since your rival always takes the one that has the advantage over yours, that Electric and Ground aren't equal. If you choose the Electric pokemon, your rival will have the Ground one and any electric attacks will be nullified making the triplet unequal. Unless we're not thinking in terms of disadvantages to your pokemon and only thinking in terms of supereffective triplets... ____________________ |

Unless Pikachu has ONLY electric attacks then it doesn't matter (I never use my starter poke against the rival's starter anyway, I switch out for one that's super effective against or resistant to his). ____________________ |

If you're having a level 5 rival battle, the Pikachu and Geodude are particularly poorly-matched. Mareep may be better; it starts with Tackle, which is still weak against Geodude, but at least inflicts damage. Pikachu at that point has Thundershock and Growl, neither of which do any damage, and there's no way it'll last long enough to start Struggling. |

I was thinking bug-steel, psyc-rock, figh-ground.
psyc-rock with levitate? PWN set: bug-steel, ice-rock, fly-fire steel double efective to ice-rock, rock double effective to fly-fire, fir double effective to bug-steel. ____________________ pho.xpt.net An awsome rom hacking site. |
