If you don't have the Firefox 3 beta, get it here.

Otherwise, if you have Firefox 3 beta of any version... just click help>check for updates if your browser hadn't done it automatically.

RC stands for release candidate, which means that it probably will be the same as the stable version later on, as long no fatal bugs of any kind are found.

I'm going to give it a try right now.

Edit: Just a warning, of my extensions only DownThemAll! and NoScript is compatibility with Firefox 3 RC1. My Littlefox theme is disabled as well, although I have a feeling I could probably force it without any problems...

Nice, looks like the phpMyAdmin crash bug from earlier was fixed... also, I get the impression, though I might be just seeing things, that the colours in the UI, particularly the back/forward buttons, were toned down to be a bit less flashy/aggressive.

extensions.checkCompatibility=false is go~ (though it would appear that extensions like Firebug don't quite work properly when forced that way)

Well, the UI varies depending on the platform you use too (see Wikipedia), probably so it would "melt in" better into the UI enviroment. I guess you thought the Win XP theme was too flashy, or used to be.

Personally I prefer using Littlefox, but I think I try using the default theme of Firefox 3 until Littlefox is upgraded...

OH SWEET LORD AILURE THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME.

I was starting to get annoyed at the occasional crashes.

The only extension that didn't work by default for me was Smart Middle Click (for those annoying Javascript links that don't open in a new tab when middle clicked). The Web Developer Toolbar still doesn't work, but that hasn't worked in any of the betas. I suppose I could force them to work, but I think I'll just be patient rather than take any chances.

The Web Developer toolbar worked natively in Beta 5. With forced execution, it works fine in RC1 too.

That's the case for allot of the extensions. I think Firefox just uses some simple system where it checks supported versions for each extensions... and not doesn't make any kind of deep analysis if it really broke or not.

"Better to err on the side of caution" appears to be their motto on extensions.

You're quite right, of course. I used it, too. Not quite sure why I thought it was broken...

In any case, there's an updated version now that works with RC1 just fine without overriding the checks.

I had lots of trouble with adding/removing/etc extensions in 3b5 and 3rc1. Half of the time it worked right away and the other half I had to install the extension over and over until it finally worked.

Hmm, it's possible that your profile is borked in Firefox. >> I hadn't any problems removing/installing extensions so far... I removed a few old ones that I don't use.

It was still doing the same thing after I uninstalled/reinstalled it over and over. Eventually I found out that "installing" an extension multiple times will eventually get it actually installed, but it's still rather annoying to have to do that.

That doesn't help anything, your profile(s) aren't deleted.

Win32: %APPDATA%\Mozilla

It had an option to delete the profile data though...it had a checkbox that said something like "Delete saved settings/bookmarks/etc" which I checked.

Is there a way to turn off the "native" menus on XP? They look awful, and using a skin with skinned menus doesn't seem to disable them.

I didn't notice the Firefox menus were different until you pointed it out. xD

Does it really bother you that much? :/

Preferable to update through the browser if you have RC1 already.

Then, the update provided by the browser is a little delayed. I think this is done on purpose by Mozilla.

I propose thread renaming (RC1 --> RC2, obv).

Good idea, probably wouldn't have to create a new thread for every version release.
