...Spiffy.
For those who know me, It's good ol' Sagittaire from SMWC. For those who dont: 19 year old computer programming major with intent to make an SMW hack for my college thesis. I also hack Doom WADs on the side, and have recently heard about this main forum where most of the hackers I've met have come from. Hope to get to know you guys, and perhaps we can move the rom hacking community forward. Later. ____________________ |

My plan's based around "The possibilites of programming". SMW seems to be the most ideal game to implement Assembly code and programming, in order to turn it into something completely different. I've played a fair share of hacks, and notice the differences between simple level edits and total conversions.
I've set out 4 years for the project, and am currently trying to implement ExGFX without having the graphics look like the aftermath of a horrid hangover. Suprisingly, it's trickier to edit than Doom, but it's simple to grasp the concepts. Hopefully all will come out right. ...and thanks for that intro link. Couldn't find it upon first look. ____________________ |

Not sure if this applies or not, but one of the reasons a bachelor's takes so long over here (at least where I'm from) is due to all of the general education requirements (which...are really unnecessary, if you want my opinion on the matter). |

Posted by Thread TitleActually it's not Acmlm's Board, it's Board2 now. Acmlm is simply the original board coder, he isn't involved with coding or administration at all anymore. blackhole89 does the coding and the admins do the administrating. There's no more Acmlm's Board. ____________________ |

Welcome to board2, Sagittiare. Have fun here.
Also, I never knew you wanted to make a SMW hack as a college thesis. Interesting. ____________________ "There are 3 types of people in this world: Those who can count and those who can't." |

Posted by blackhole89 Yeah, I sort of felt like this in HS. First two years were pretty annoying, third was fun, but last year was awesome. Especially physics. I had Japanese all four years though. |

Heh. Thanks for the reception.
And over in good ol US, my college has me bogged with general education classes. I'm just trying to learn Computer Programming, not about how Mr.So and so donated 20mil to the science building (Freshman seminar class) ...lovely how higher education...isnt. ____________________ |

I doubt this -always- holds true (after all, 'stupid' and 'nonsensical' are generally little more than one's own opinion)...but -usually-, whenever you encounter something in life that humanity has done, which seems stupid or nonsensical, the real reason that something has been done, is because at least one of the people involved (usually in an indirect manner) made way too much money off of it.

Not really, at public universities you can shave off most general requirements, and take whatever courses or graduate in two years or so; at private universities, you'd probably have most interesting classes anyways.
Another note, although partially a byproduct of my interests, specific classes without buzzwords in their title, eg general equilibrium theory, generally seem to be interesting, although the low requirements imply deadbeats who need credit to graduate and other such people might be taking the course. My safe suggestion is to check out the textbooks and professor as well. |

Posted by blackhole89 It's actually a double major: Computer Science and Business. Programming is one of the major classes I need to take, spanning over two semesters, and with the Business, I still have a path to get an MBA as well, securing both finance and my love for computers. ____________________ |
