I don't really like the sequels to this series. The original games, Blue, Red, Yellow, and the remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, are the only ones I really like. The Pokémon were unique, cool, and original, and then with the sequels, it didn't really matter. They kept making these lame Pokémon creatures that I could care less about. They should really remake the original games in a 3D RPG, or even a 3D MMORPG. How sick would that be? I've been playing FireRed on occassion. It's a lot of fun to know that you have a rival who is competing with you. And to watch him change throughout the game, and evolve his own Pokémon. When these games first came out, laugh if you want, but the rival used to inspire me to work harder and catch more Pokémon and train them harder. Like when you get to the S.S. Anne, he tells you that he caught 40 kinds, meanwhile I only had 20. It gave you the feeling that you weren't where you should be at. Brilliant games, the originals. But these sequels, I'm not too crazy about. Anyone else feel the same way?

I can see why you'd feel that way. I'll have to agree. Gold and Silver were pretty good in their own right, but yeah.

RBY were quite good, until the end of game, where the fun died. Gold and Silver's rematches via calling got rid of that. R/S just couldn't cut it for me. Sapphire is my only physical game I didn't restart due to glitches.

Fire Red kinda cancelled that out, since it brought back the Pokémon I liked. Pokémon XD was awesome, but a bit short. If it were longer and had routes, it'd have been much better. Diamond and Pearl have my highest hour total since Red. Red had something like 150 hours, Fire Red at like 130 hours. Pearl is at over 300 hours, heading on to 400. I guess the Wi-Fi features were a key point. But in favourite order?
G/S/C, D/P & XD, Fr/Lg, R/B/Y, Colo, R/S/E.

Colosseum and XD are the Gamecube titles which consist of only 2 vs 2 battles nearly, so I included them in the list as you can capture, trade and battle in them. I think PBR was a bit of a let-down, without a main mode. They need another Wii title with a RPG mode in it, like XD. Maybe not like XD with the Shadow-Pokémon system, but that added a new depth to the game which was interesting.

I'm a Pokémanic, aren't I?

Despite being 7/8 when Pokemon first came out in America, I've never had any interest in the series. It never really appealed to me for some reason, and it just seems like the Pokemon designs are becoming less appealing each successive generation (WTF @ Lucario).

What I liked the most was battling, not much having to capture the monsters. And I considered G/S/C an improvement over R/B/Y, but most of my pokemaniac life was spent playing Anime Style Battling on the fora, and playing NetBattle, in where I was actually good.

But then the new versions appeared and Pokemon went downhill from there, yet people wanted to play it and it was more difficult to find someone wanting to play G/S/C, until I better decided to quit. It was fun, but today's Pokemon look like a lot of Magikarps to me.

That only gave me the feeling that he was an overconfident bully. In other words, I didn´t give a shit how many pokémon he had caught since it was just a number. You actually can´t see more than 6 of them at once.

And a sequel is also my favorite. Pokémon Crystal Version. No other pokémon game has caught the mysterious feelings and areas that game had. Not even Pearl/Diamond can top that.

XD I also liked. I´ve beaten it. I was aiming at beating Orre Colosseum too but now I don´t know. They´re formidable. I´ve beaten half of them, though. And you usually need to base your whole teams on their counterparts. That, and I haven´t played it for quite some time. I have PBR which disappointed me a bit since it has no story-driven mode. Just battling.

Diamond/Pearl was a refreshment. One of the best Pokémon games up-to-date. I took a break from it for some reason quite some time ago. At that time I was at 250+ hours into it. But my pokémon Ruby game has more than 400 hours in it. I still need to beat that. But with 250+ hours into Diamond, there´s still lots to do.

Although I find that I like each successive game in the series more for the innovations in the battle system and the better overall polish, it seems that each new set of pokemon is less interesting and worse designed.

The series desperately needs a better programmer, as well. Blocking sound commands and stupidly slow menus make for an experience that makes me want to put the game down far sooner than I otherwise would.

One reason I probably felt a little turned off with latter generations of Pokémon is that my first generation Pokémon were... stuck in the 1st generation.

Even if their movesets are probably atrocious, I still kinda miss them.

Yeah, training new pokemon from scratch is kind of annoying sometimes...
D/P was a great game, it was actually slightly more difficult than (most of) the other pokemon games (though that doesn't mean too much but it's still a step in the right direction).

I really still haven't reconciled myself with very many of the pokemon beyond the GSC Era.

They're all just weird, for the most part and I find I like very few of them as entities. Sure they might win battles, but I just don't like them.

GSC, despite being the slowest metagame (Great Stalling Contest) and the slowest actual game before DP came out, I thought it had the single player 'play by yourself' done the best. RBY just felt too rough around the edges, while Hoenn in Sapphire irked me. Johto was quite fun to explore, and despite how stripped down Kanto was, it was there and free to explore. It gave the game a feeling of 'largeness' that none of the pokemon games since have really had (Although Fire Red/Leaf Green certainly tried).

The only game I've truly enjoyed in the Pokemon series since Silver/Crystal has been Pokemon Colosseum, strangely enough.

Without ever having been much of a Pokemans player, the impression I always had of the whole franchise was that they took a neat, though not overly novelty, idea that would have sufficed for one or two, at the best a mini-series of games with new releases as significantly better base systems come out, and blew it out of any reasonable notion of proportion for the sake of milking the maximum possible amount of money out of it.

Oh, and Corocoro says Game Freak's releasing another game, titled "Pokemon Platinum." Who didn't see this coming?

I'm not planning on buying or playing that game, but I can say that I was waiting for Pokemon Platinum since G/S/C (The name "Platinum", that is.)

It's kind of sad how true this is.

The only game that strives away from this formula is the Pokémon console games. And those were made by a unrelated 3rd party... which is why they're different.

Bahahaha... Oh, oh wow. Thank you. That's two or three to the greatest thing ever.

I don't understand why people like GSC. It had the greatest amount of terrible and forgettable pokemon of all generations thus far. Its overworld design was awful and linear and linear and awful. The only mildly interesting thing about it was a Kanto retread where everything sucked. Sure, you could go back and fight the gym leaders, but they were all too easy because they were weaker than the elite four who you already beat... And they butchered it's overworld design, too. And Every trainer in the game was underleveled and pitifully easy to beat except for Red. Its single-player experience just wasn't up to par, and its competitive aspects were best summed up by Xenesis there.

Emerald is clearly the best of them all for single-player, and in multiplayer, Diamond/Pearl offer the greatest strategy.

I wonder why they haven't done a MMORPG yet, in full 3D... I can actually see that working... And I mean for the original games, Red and Blue. You choose a starter Pokémon, and explore a massive world, get into adventures, and collect Pokémon wherever you go. Trade with people, have converations through the keyboard, there is a lot of potential there if they did.

It being the last of the "Gameboy" pokémon might help too.

I mean, with the jump to GameBoy Advance... any pokémon you had on GSC or RBY was left behind.
