See www.ubuntu.com. The site is kind of overloaded though, and barfs 503's. :p

I recommend using the torrent, which is on this page. Might wind up mirroring it somewhere if it doesn't load for most people. XD

This version is LTS too, which means that the Ubuntu foundation will support it for a longer time than normal. Perfect for those companies that seems to be afraid of upgrading too often...

It also includes wubi, which makes it possible to install Ubuntu within Windows... and without repartioning. Disk I/O will be little slower when you install Ubuntu this way though... and there's always Virtualbox for the people who find even wubi too risky.

I installed it, and it's working well so far. The only troubles I'm having is with wireless. I can connect to unencrypted networks just fine, but it always gets stuck on 28% when I try to connect to my school's network.

Yeah, for some reason it stops connecting to my WEP-enabled network, and doesn't like the key I give it...

I haven't tried this, but I stumbled upon the site last Sunday and lol'd at the advertisement. Something about systems with a whole lot of unnecessary features.

Like a nifty uninstaller.

I think the uninstalling feature it mentions is related to Wubi. Where Ubuntu is (ironically) almost like a Windows program that you install/uinstall.

Sound stopped working on my install, but I should check it agan to see if it's really the fault of Ubuntu. I doubt it as something fatal happened during the upgrade (which was my fault too... I was screwing around with root.).

Well, I'm using (Kubuntu) 7.10 again. The new version absolutely refused to work with with the encryption on my school's wireless network.

Oh well...

Possible it's a problem with the driver that Ubuntu uses for your wireless card.

What encryption is your school using anyway? oO

It uses WPA2 Enterprise, unfortunately. Hopefully, if this gets more common in the future, Ubuntu/others will start supporting it better.

Until then, though, I'm perfectly happy to stay with 7.10.

Hmm, makes me think on how the sound broke during the upgrade process. Then I suspect it's my own fault as I did something stupid during the upgrade so... I should check it out and consider a eventually clean install.
