The first programming language I used at all was BASIC. I got an Atari computer when I was little (the Stone Age early-mid '80s) and typed in programs from library books, but I didn't do anything of my own. The first language I did anything original with was LOGO, which I learned in elementary school. And that was it until I went to college for computer science and took my intro programming course, which was taught in C++.

Wait was that the one with the turtle, because if it is I know exactly what you're talking about and completely forgot about it.

QBASIC, back in 1992 or 1993.

Does that count as coming-out?

VB, like, half a decade ago. I might have dabbled around in it a little earlier than that though.

I'm so sorry. I have shamed my elders.

*seppuku*

The earliest language I learned and still know any of is PHP, which I first started learning in 2003.

QBASIC was probably too early for me (by the time I was old enough to really care about programming, Windows 95 had come and gone), but I remember being able to navigate around DOS when I was reallllly little. Probably around 5 years old, maybe a little earlier.

Also, SimCity 3000 Unlimited's Scenario Creator was one of my early "programming languages", if it counts.

Wow, I never even thought about that, that would take the cake as my first programming language then.

I thought I was awesome back around 1999 when I discovered QBASIC on my mom's 386. My parents, being my parents, bought me "Visual Basic 6 for Dummies" (which included a demo copy of VB) that Christmas.

I played with it. I didn't understand it though, my feeble 9-year-old brain probably couldn't grasp most concepts of programming. In a language like VB, that's doubly bad or something.

Anyway, I kinda gave up on all forms of programming for a while. I purchased some book on C++ around 2001, which included Visual C++ 6. I still didn't get it.

Around the end of 2003, I noticed that Quake (which was one of my favorite games at the time) was released as open-source. I downloaded the code and played with it for a while. I wasn't sure of what was going on, but I found some tutorials and stuff, and I kinda eventually figured out how it all worked.

So basically, I now know C because of Quake. Awesome.

Between that time and now, I've played with most languages, but I use C, PHP, and Python the most. I could solve a given problem in quite a few languages actually.

That would have been nice to be taught computer programing in elementary school, but our school system couldn't afford computers back then. Even in middle school all we had was old green screens. Come to think of it we couldn't even afford new walls, we used propped up sheets of plyboard.

First Qbasic, though mostly cut and pasting code. Made my computer to do strange beeps mostly... and colorful stuff on the screen.

Then Delphi, which I forgotten completely now. If I looked at Delphi syntax today, I would be confused.

Then Java, which I pretty much use alot toya.<<

Visual Basic 6 at the age of 9. Then Javascript. Later, TI-BASIC, then z80 assembly. Visual Basic.NET, discovered C#, learned C# (is now my language of choice). ARM/THUMB. Most recently, PHP, and now I am incredibly proficient at Javascript.

HTML, followed by C, followed by COBOL, followed by (sooner or later) SQL/PHP.

I prefer web languages, as you can tell. Much more tolerant of accidents.

My first language would probably be HTML which I learned at age 12 or 13, and my first true programming language was Visual Basic 6 at 15.

A really, really awful variant of BASIC produced by Interplay (now defunct.)

OH MY GOD. That language *SUCKED* so bad! I remember that, too.

That was my first language, followed by actual visual basic, not "LTPBasic" as I nicknamed that awful wannabe VB language.

It's also the reason why I stay away from derivatives and variants of the BASIC language.

I actually did this as well, didn't know it counted as programming though.
