Caution: I'm a noob.
I'm really new to ROM hacks and emulators in general and I've noticed that the NES hacks I've found on here are all saved as .ips patches. How do I get these to work? I've heard of them before but have no idea how they function. Do I need to download a .nes file for Nestopia, then the .ips? How do I get it to work then? |

Yes, you need the original ROM (the .nes file) and the patch. The patch contains a list of changes that need to be made to the original to produce the hacked ROM. You use a patcher to apply the patch, producing a hacked ROM that can be played. A popular patcher is Lunar IPS, and it is available from many emulation/ROM hacking sites, including Romhacking.net and Zophar's Domain. |

I believe Nestopia can patch the ROM automatically, actually.
