Ummm.... Wow? Good for you? So what happened? This place got full legal rights to everything Acmlm's Board-related or something? (Sorry, not up on legal stuff, current events, and the like. ) |

Yay! Did it really take the federal government?
Now is it possible for someone to fix the second archive or is it broken forever? In particular: - Half the boards don't show up on the main page - When you enter a forum that doesn't show up manually, you also have to change the page manually as the page numbers don't show up. - Everything including and after the first non-ASCII character in a post doesn't show up. - Weird word substitutions like Colin -> Colleen and Ailure -> Kitten Yiffer, etc. |

Colleen is just Colin's female alter ego.. The name thing isn't a weird "word substitution", but just that several people were using alternate temporary names when the board went down\last backup was saved. |

Yeah, a lot of older posts on the 2nd archive mess up after the first non-ASCII character, could someone try to fix it? |

Posted by Krisan Thyme That's understandable with the redcent posts, but every post with Colin's name apparently has the substitution. There is also the case of the word "failure" to "fKitten Yiffer". In serious officer club-type threads. |

As I recall, Colin actually had a completely alternate account for Colleen at one point too, which might account for that. *shrugs* I haven't looked over that archive much for the very reason that it "is" sort of broken, so it is hard to say what all might be wrong with it really. |

Posted by KernalPosted by Krisan Thyme Once someone changes their name, it affects ALL their posts, you know. Like yours. When you changed your name, any post made by "Eyeball Eaters" became a post made by "Kernal". |

I mean in the post text itself. If someone posted the phrase "Eyeball Eaters" in a post when I used that name, it didn't change to Kernal in the post text, did it?
Like if I type "pikaguy900" in this post and you change your name to "The Green Toaster" or something, the letters p, i, k, a, g, u, y, 9, 0, and 0 in my post will not magically change to reflect your new name. |

Actually, I read that wrong.. I thought that said "every other post of Colin's" not "every post of Colin's" -- heh, well I'm pretty sure having changed his name to Colleen that it would make every older reference of Colin into Colleen too so.. again, that doesn't seem odd.
(And yes, would have corrected myself sooner, but no way to double post nor edit.. ) |

Why am I always getting misunderstood here?
I'm talking about in people's posts. Not in the area to the left of the post. But in the area where you're reading these words right now. This post contains the word Colin in this sentence. If Colin's account name becomes Colleen, the preceding sentence should NOT CHANGE. Name changes do not normally include global search and replace in people's actual posts. |

I understand what you're saying now, but I didn't catch that bit while I was posting my own correction. Besides, does it really matter that much? |

Well, it's distracting and kinda misleading if someone's talking about an actual Colleen. The Ailure search/replace is worse because it interferes with the word "failure" in posts too.
Fixing the second archive is definitely not a priority though, I just wanted to know if it was possible (i.e., something in the code is doing that which could be removed) or if it caused permanent and therefore irrevocable changes to the actual database. |

The database is probably fudged, yes. You'd have to ask Xkeeper or Acmlm personally to get a real answer on it, but I don't actually see why words in posts would be altered like that anyway unless something were seriously wrong..
In any case, it isn't that confusing or distracting to me. The alt names are pretty familiar if you've been around long enough to not throw you off any, and if you haven't been around that long.. well, chances are the archives won't be worth anything to you beyond a mild entertainment on a bored day anyway. |

It's a filter active on the old board.
It was that way when the board blew up, just you know. It's always been that way in archive2. :/ ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

That would be the proper translation of part of the intro to Zero Wing, Drag. "With the kind cooperation of the federal government forces, we have captured (received?) all of your bases."
It's good to see we have the archives here now. |

Yay for names being back to normal. :x
I didn't mind my name being changed all that much (I suppose it could've been seen as amusing, or whatever? meh.), it just bothered me a bit when it was archived like that. :x So.. yus! .. Yippee? :x Good work. ? |

Posted by Ailure Hmm.. I think I remember that now.. But it has been a long time, so eh.. Posted by Colin I'm fairly curious just how it was done, actually. What ends needed to be met in order to get these? |
