That's why I got a spill-proof rubber keyboard, I tend to ruin conventional keyboard because Im on the computer 24/7 and, by extension, eat and drink at the computer. Of course, it's crap to type on...I should try a regular keyoard with a plastic cover.

I believe it's safe to rinse keyboards in ordinary water, as long as you give it sufficient time to dry. You might even try heated distilled water if you're worried about minerals and other crap corroding the internals.

Also, I do believe Microsoft keyboards are fairly spill-resistant. I can't see any holes underneath the keys of my current one, it's all solid plastic.

I've only spilled water in a keyboard once, around 2003 or so...

It's actually fairly difficult to break a keyboard by just spilling something on it.. The way they're made, it isn't too likely that the liquid is going to seep onto any of the electrical areas immediately, and moreover it is more likely that said liquid will dry before it ever does.

..Although, depending on what you managed to spill on the board.. you could end up with a hell of a sticky mess and a bunch of keys that want to be difficult. (Though the latter has more to do with the stickiness itself rather than any actual damage..)

I have a wireless keyboard, and it's more or less okay to clean with water. But it really depends on the keyboard, I would think.

I've ruined two keyboards because of spillage. Maybe I've just been unlucky?

I've had my monitor for over 10 years and have never had any problems out of it. I *heart* my Gateway EV700.
It's got a lot of my sticker/label collection stuck onto it too. I'll be sad when it dies. A new flat panel would REALLY help out my workspace issues, but I just can't bring myself to spend then money (well, and I'm broke) when I love my monitor and it still works well.

Thought for sure I replied to this already.. must have ran off when I was writing it up earlier.. Well, due to the way the average keyboard is made it just doesn't seem especially likely that you're going to fry it by just spilling something on it.. so yea, I'd vote for unlucky. Unlucky or wonky keyboards, one of the two..

Reason I say it is unlikely, is due to the fact that a thin plastic (or in many cases, rubber) sheet is laying directly under the keys.. water or other liquids are more likely to just sit on the surface of this sheet harmlessly.. and otherwise, many keyboards are elevated, so the liquid would just roll down to the bottom area anyway. (Which in and of itself wouldn't harm anything either.) Given time, the board should just safely dry..
