The contest deadline submission has came, but judging will not occur until we get more judges.

Credit goes to FirePhoenix0 for the original idea.

Here's how this is going to work:

You have 10 days to create a level, using only elements from the original SMW. You are free to use any feature in LM except for the 8x8 graphic editor. The only programs that you may use are LM, an emulator, and a tile editor for combining the original SMW tilesets into another tileset. Create any type of level that you wish-a mountain, a lava cave, a death castle, anything that you want to make.

The level must start at level 105, eliminating the need for an edited overworld. You may use as many of the levels as you want to, but make sure it starts at level 105.

All entries must be submitted by midnight of 2-27-2008. This means that 2-27 is the last day for submitting entries, so make sure to enter your level by then! You may only submit one level, so make sure the one you enter is the one you want in the contest. You can post screenshots, but you cannot post a video (that gives the level away), and you cannot discuss any of the other entries. Doing so will result in disqualification.

The levels will be judged in these categories:
-Design: Is the level designed well?
-Difficulty: Is the level the right difficulty and length?
-Creativity: Is the level creative?
-Technical: Does the level have any glitches?
-Fun: Is the level fun to play?

Each category will be worth up to 10 points, and will be judged by me and two as of now, four other people. The final scores for each level will be averaged to create the level's final score. The judges CANNOT enter the contest, because if they do then they will rate their level 50/50 and the results will be skewed. If you would like to sign up for judging, then post in this thread saying so.

The list of entries will be kept in this post:
beneficii - A Night in the Wood
darklink898 - Mountain Heights
EvilLemmy - Shellkicker Cavern
FirePhoenix0 - Flight of the Yoshi
KP9000 - Shaft Fortress Catacombs
Legomen - Unnamed(download level.ips)
WhiteYoshiEgg - Yoshi's Island 7
wowfunhappy - Unnamed
Sukasa - Unnamed
x1372 - Ninji Fortress

This thread is for submitting your level, discussing your level, and asking questions regarding the contest. When the contest judging is over, then the results will be posted. Have fun, and good luck!

Note: If you would like, you can allow your level to be incorporated into the Tower of Spatula hack if it is one of the winners. This provides more members and ensures that it will have some of the best levels on the board.

He's thinking I've "stolen" this from somewhere else. While it did come from somewhere else, I'm just bringing it over here for other people to enjoy. Note that I never said that I was the first to do this, because I'm not.

Too bad almost all of the SMW hackers that are here came from where you stole the idea from.

Hmm, lemme see what I can chef up. This'll help me work with LM since I'm rusty with the editor. 105 let's bump heads...

Nice job pulling this from SNN and I. I don't really mind. "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery." As said before however, there likely won't be many people participating here because most are doing it over on SMWC. But you never know, you may get a decent interest. Good luck running it and good job outrightly explaining what can and can't be done. That'll be saving you massive headache in the future.

If I have a level with an edited 8x8 tileset (GFX-only) and a couple edited MAP16 tiles, is it within the rules for me to strip out the custom 8x8 and 16x16 content and submit this level?

You can edit Map16, but not graphics.

In other words, as long as you have no trace of the custom graphics in your level, you would be okay.

If you're using new graphics, then it's not OK. However, if your modified tileset is just multiple original SMW tilesets, then it is.

Yeah, the new tileset was just the SMW ghost tileset with improved graphics, nothing actually *new*. Thanks for clearing that up.

Actually, just improving the graphics counts as new graphics.

Heh, I probably contribute with a level. I already have a idea what kind of level I want to make, with vanilla SMW stuff.

What do we submit the levels as, .mwl, .ips, or what? I'm assuming .ips.

.ips, because then we don't have to deal with map16 pages, importing multiple levels and other crap.

Levels used are 105, 1FA, and 11D. 11D is exactly the same as 105, It's just a matter of exits.

May I submit a level that I've already submitted on SMWC? Hm, why not... I just do it.

*Copied from SMWC*
Here's my level:

Yoshi's Island 7. (I suck at level names...)

If the link doesn't work, try this one.

I couldn't wait for someone to answer, so I didn't change the OW to make sure that nothing's wrong. But the level still has a secret exit. It's nothing too fancy, but I think I did quite a good job.
