Interesting choice, an underwater yoshi's cave. I like it though.

A new background for my hack, ripped directly from "Mario & Wario".
Comments? Feedback?

Looks awesome, but something about the Pokey would make it look strange in a long level.

Also, is Mario & Wario that game for the snes where Mario had a bucket on his head, and it played sort of like Lemmings?

I actually think it looks pretty good standing alone there like that. Reminds me of playing Paper Mario back in the day. Though, I'd like to see some graphics to go along with it, possibly a lighter colored sand. That way, if you decide you must have a pit, (in the middle of the desert) the background compliments it nicely.

Edit: post #300. Yay!

That is quite a nice style, and as I've said before, it will look even better in game because the player will be moving and any pixelization will melt away.

Thanks for the nice comments, it was a pain to rip that background.

Anyways, now for some action (or not):

This desert level, called "Parched Punishment" (thanks CyclopsCaveman for the name) features a big amount of various, typical enemies like Pokeys, dry bones and whatnot.

Credit goes to:
WhiteYoshiEgg/Black Squirrel <--- for the foreground.
Supertails <--- "Mario & Luigi: PiT - Gritzy Desert" Custom Song

Umm... yeah, that's it. I hope I didn't forget anyone.

Daymn, that looks really good. The only gripe I have is that the water really needs to be fixed, it doesn't fit in as well as it could.

Actually, the water effects from YI look like they would fit the area well...

Super Mario Cosmos
The title. 16 color because it's on layer 2

Wow... Good Layer 2 Title Screen.

I am trying to do the same with the Status bar. Because of a remake of SMB1.

I know there are too many hacks that try to be like SMB1, But everyone will not regret my hack unlike many other SMW to SMB1 hacks.

The downside is you can't have a background. If you try that with the status bar you'll have to manually apply it to ever level and you won't be able to have a background. I don't think it's worth that.

Then I may make a Sprite Status Bar, or a SMB3-style statusbar (Layer 1 or 2) in place of that. (Just on the Top, not Bottom.)

Back On Topic. Your screenshots are pretty good. For a first timer.

Me? I'm not a first-timer I've been hacking for four years, SMW for three. This is the first thing I have to show for because I've gone back and restarted all my work as new advances are made. That and my original level design was bad enough to merit change.

hm, you could have a layer 2 background there. You'd have to turn off layer 2 vertical scrolling, but you could do it with HDMA, and a little clever BG design. Case in point:

first, in LM:
+------
| some text
|********
|********
|
|&&&&&&&
|&&&&&&&
+------

the *, & designates a BG image, and teh text, your title. Using HDMA, you rearrange it as such on screen:

+------
|
|********
|********
| some text
|&&&&&&&
|&&&&&&&
+------

Set the positions with vertical layer 2 HDMA,
Set the scroll with horizontal L2 HDMA, where the text has no scroll and the background has normal scroll.

The sand has a bit more yellow in it than the sand in the BG. You should drop the yellow value a bit, and desaturate it. The sand near the horizon (in the BG) is a good example. Hell, the pokey looks perfect, it's outlined with a brown instead of black, giving it that dry look. Keep up the good work, everything else looks great!

Hmm... didn't check in for quite awhile. Meh... anyways, thanks for the nice comments so far. KP9000, I take your suggestion into consideration but for now, the hack is put away since I ran out of ideas. Need to refresh or something.

Now it's time to hop a bit more onto ASM and yeah, I think I did a good job on it:

From the looks of it, Single-wall-jumps are possible..?

I'll be honest, that's what I dislike about the walljump too. It's too easy when Mario descends at such a slow rate, but too hard if you remove "hovering"... Any chance you could change the block to allow for a short timed interval of hovering whilst adjacent?

For now I just increased the X speed when you bump of the wall which makes single walljumps impossible but still easy to use.

I'll see if I can somehow prevent that "single walljump" mistake by adding some code while keeping the old X speed. :/
