The eyes aren't well done, you push too hard on the pencil, you OBVIOUSLY don't have a very steady hand, everything is jagged. Learn to draw. See: practice.

Yes, I agree, the wings and hair of the first drawing have to be my favorite part. They are intricate, but they frame the important details (the face and features) rather than drawing the eye away from them.

Alpha: Why the commotion? Last I checked, this section of the forum wasn't some Deviantart outlet where criticism was considered a bad thing. ArBeWhat's comments might have been direct and to the point, but they certainly were constructive and I, to a certain extent, feel bound to agree with him.
I don't know if it's the typical scenario of "mediocre picture is posted"-"everybody extols it to get in good terms with the poster" you are idealizing here, but seeing masses of threads like that in forums, they always annoyed me...
