Ok so I'm posting from one of the computer labs in my school, doing the normal, slacking off, posting to acmlm... things like that.

Then I hear my teacher start flipping out on someone on the other side of the room, quick glance over in their direction and I see the case off of a computer and some guys poking at the innards of an outdated Dell OptiPlex GX110

Further investigation revealed that this kid had put a check for 1200 dollars (Canadian) in his CD drive and it had gotten stuck in the back of the compartment.

They ended up having to get the tech teacher come with some scissors to get the check and scold the kid.

Off all the things I've seen shoved in a CD drive, this takes the cake.

And I thought the "CD as cupholder" was bad...

Were they trying to pay for something online?

Actually, no

I think they were just being silly. And yea, this takes the cake AFAIK. Heh, these computers have *nothing* at all in them... motherboard, CD, HD, and floppy. PSU too. That's seriously it

On an unrelated note, the tech seems to trust me enough that he asked me to put the ocver back on that computer

$1200, or $2100?

Makes me wonder who that check was to, or if it's one they just made to be silly, like to the computer

You should post that to Computer Stupidities. That site is hilarious, it's amazing how dumb some people can be with computers like "How do you spell L?" and "How long is your 1000-foot cable?" etc.

"How do you spell L?"

Like capital L? or just l as in letter #12 of the alphabet?

Part of me thinks that people deserve to loose their money if they screw around with it like that. :/

For ages I used my broken computer's CD drive as a cup holder. It fits small coffee well.

That beats the time I told somebody NOT to spin an external hard drive around, prompting them to casually spin it around and break it, therefore destroying all of their own schoolwork.

Once I was asked to hold a floppy disk while a teacher took a phone call and I was idly fiddling with the write-protect tab thingy. I had no idea what it did at the time, I wonder if I left it in write-protected mode and the next person to use the disk was like "WHY CAN'T I SAVE????"

Editing the AUTOEXEC.BAT file with repeated echoes and calls to the batch file itself stumped some of my 'best tech crew' at my school for weeks on a comp.

That was hilarious.

Infinite loop, basically? How did they fix it?
