I seem to have run aground on my OW in WoC again...
The OW hates me for some reason!

Anyway here are some screenshots documenting what happens when I enter a Star on the Nexus side:
(ignore the obvious mis-tile here, that will be fixed)

It takes me here, where the Star SHOULD have been revealed:

What went wrong?

Here's an IPS if you want to help me out... seems like I'm getting alot of help from people these days, I need to start helping others too LOL.

Oh and before you ask, I do remember setting that as a silent event, i may haven't though so please correct me if I am wrong!

Just so you know, I'm not going to download the patch to test anything.

Are you starting your game from a previous save file or savestate? I seem to recall that most of the overworld stuff is saved directly in the save file, so changes will not take effect until you start a new game. If you're 100% sure you have everything set correctly in LM, that would be my guess for what's going wrong.

Can't be. I tested the patch, and the problem that trip is having is happening to me.

I just redid my OW and I'm gonna try it again, and yes JJ I started a new file and everything... so if it works I'll tell you and this thread can be closed.

EDIT: It didn't. I don't know what is going wrong so I am going to leave it to the SMW community. I'll upload a new patch with my recent changes.

EDIT2:
Here's the ips:
Teh IPS
And here are some more screenshots:

The exit in Warp Nexus to take is to Mario's left... (Thank vanilla smw for the directions)

The star above takes me here.

The next one.

The next one.

The last one.

I'm trying to make them act like in plain smw where you can take the star from star world, but it gets you nowhere. so you can take the star back to continue on.

EDIT3:
In case you didnt know, to get here take the secret exit from world 1-1 (not the castle) then use the 2nd door/pipe in the star worlds to take you to the key.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I've read the FAQs and took a good long look at SMW's original OW but I can't figure it out.

Are you trying to reveal both stars at once?

Nothing is set to "reveal" per se, but I do want Mario to be able to warp back if he takes a star and nothing is connected to it yet.

the star should be connected to something. the stars on the overworld need to be revealed before they're used to warp back. You should be able to do this by having your star world levels trigger their revealing, just like the original SMW did - when you beat star world 1, it opened the path to the vanilla dome star and triggered that to appear (if it was already opened from vanilla secret 1's second exit, that appearance was moot). You should set up your star road the same way, or if the star points are automatically connected, just have them all revealed on the overworld from the beginning.

*note* I assume the places that the stars take you on your overworld are places where the stars eventually appear when you take whatever secret exit is set up to reveal them naturally. If that's not the case then I don't know what's wrong.

You assumed correctly.

I have a Layer 1 event set to place a Star Tile there, will that work?

I'm really not sure. That's not a problem I'm running into with my hack since I'm not using a connecting star world. You might be better off looking in detail at the events on the original SMW overworld.

Also, you have to remember that each warp star on your overworld needs a level number (one of the reasons I'm primarily using pipes). You should have the event of the star world level that gains you access to a warp star set to reveal the level of its connecting star on the main overworld.

Best of luck solving your problem.

*edit* well sorry I can't help you with that problem then.

That's just the thing: If you've taken a look at my OW, you'll see that when you complete the secret exit, it "reveals" a unused level tile on my OW that stands for a "Gem" placed on a Layer 2 star. So I can't "reveal" the star on the OW. =/

EDIT: holy crap! I figured it out!

LOL now this thread can be closed!
