Im not posting this (this time) because I'm angry I can't get a wii. I've found things in life far more fulfilling than games, and spend my time there nowadays (friends, school, guitar, etc.)

I'm posting this because I honestly think its ridiculous. Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves.

look at the issue -- its been almost 2 years since it's release and you STILL can't buy the thing without paying $165 extra for it. thats ludacris.

by now, nintendo has had enough time to stock every home in North America with a wii -- its seems like they are choosing to release so few at a time. This is always the problem for consoles -- the first 6 months or so of their release, but 2 years? 90% of the people I know who wanted one already HAVE a wii (albeit they're old enough to get a job and have a car, but they had to hunt wiis down like crazy to find them). but you still can't buy one? wtf?

this has to be the WORST marketing scheme I've ever seen or heard of.

they advertise for the things heavily, yet make it unavailable. They're losing many consumers by doing so -- I know many parents that would have gotten younger kids (11-15) a wii but COULDNT so they didnt.

I seriously wanna know wtf is up with this. Is it Nintendo choosing to release almost none at a time, are the rumors of UPS workers stealing them so they can sell them themselves (at 2x value) true? or is there really some resource issue I'm not seeing here...

like I said, if you offered me one for $20, I probably wouldnt buy it (even severely underpriced like that) because, quite frankly, I don't have the time for games. But I honestly think if its the choice of nintendo to market like this, it will be considered the worst marketing scheme ever...

remember, in about 3 years time they'll be releasing another batch of systems, and if the stock of wiis just starts hitting a year earlier, few will buy them. Hell, if they start shipping as the next gen comes out, it'll be another sega 32x, saturn, and cd marketing tragedy...

They're making ~1.8 million Wiis per year, and have already sold almost 20 million total in 1.5 years.

Hm, have you seen the sales numbers? By my own memory, they're still selling insanely fast. Perhaps there's a massive shortage simply because of the still-massive I'll add to this saying that I note, however, that some local stores have had Wii consoles available for a while now

but wtf is up with it. Why don't they expand at least if thats the case.

its ridiculous to have to pay $165 extra for something thats 2 years old.

by now, they should be steadily stocking stores.

and perhaps your local stores have had shipments because you dont live in the middle of the woods like me... I know for a fact that no store within 25-50 miles of me has gotten even a shipment in at all (unless they go RIGHT off the shelf before they're unpacked.)

perhaps this is the sign of a worse issue -- maybe kids of all ages are forsaking social and physical activities for games more than ever. thats not good, we have enough child and adolescent obesity in the US

I'm legitimately trying to understand here, thats all...

That's just rediculous. I have a Wii and spend most of my time on the computer. Then again, once Brawl comes out...heh

yes but Im just speculating.... I never said it was guaranteed correct, just perhaps...

besides, you don't happen to be 90% of all wii consumers....

I imagine a majority of wii owners to be younger than anyone on here... although acquiring one might be hard for little kids...

I don't know, there's certainly something influencing the sales. videogames have been widely popular for years now, and there hasnt been anythign quite like this...

not to mention, everyone I know who has a wii is really disappointed in it. IDK about you, but most people around here are absolutely in LOVE with the 360, and as much as I hate to support microsoft... publishers are doing a better job of producing all sorts of games for it...

as for the ps3, well, it seems like it doesnt even exist. I have never seen one, although I know they're available (I think). Nobody talks about them ever, and nobody I know has one, or wants it... I actually forgot it existed until this post... All I know about it is the sonic game they released for it is an absolute travesty (maybe the game is fun, but the storyline is so shitty, cheesy, and kiddy, it makes me ashamed of what sega's done with their old mascot...)

I'm going to try and dig up some research on exactly whats different this time around...

I bought mine on ebay with an extra wii mote and with wii sports, I got this for cheaper then what I would have paid in a store for the same items. Everything I bought was new in box or whatever it came in. I think overall it was $10 cheaper then what I would have paid in the store, therefore your argument of paying $165 dollars more than what it costs can be thrown out the window.

Um you must live in some fucked up place, because everyone here who owns a wii that I know of is absolutely in love with it, and it's not people younger than our age group, it's people of all languages. My grandparents are buying a wii for crying out loud, my dad who hated video games with a passion is buying a wii for himself (and will let my little brother play it when he isn't).

stfu, and don't do your research on a subset that makes up less than 1% of wii owners, your making yourself look like a jackass.

I saw three Wiis in stock over here. They were gone within about two minutes of being stocked.

Accountants will assemble the figures relating to the previous system's sales, and use it to estimate the stock needed for the next system. Unfortunately, this wasn't the best method so yeah. The shortage over here varies between the system or the games. I can gather, they're selling too fast for production to keep up.

Stupid accounting concepts, they do my head in at times. Logical or not. That's where I blame it anyway. I only got a Wii at release for the Virtual Console. I have more games from it than physical games.

Well, they can't increase the production by too much... as they might wind up with having too much. And having unsold goods is bad, from a business point.

And the supply was actually close meeting the demand earlier last year, but then the Christmas shopping season came...

The 360 has been out for a year longer than the Wii, so yeah it probably has more games for it.
You're also forgetting that Brawl is coming out (eventually ...) and that it is going to be the biggest game ever .

Wii's are always sold 5 minutes within stock at the gaming stores here.. I've even watched them stock, put a sign on the window saying "Wiis in stock" and people horde in.

I don't understand what all the buzz about the Wii is. There's a whole lot of better things to do out there. I was going to get one the night it came out, but decided against it, and spent the money on some new clothes and a haircut.

PS2 had 2 major shortages. The launch to late 2001 one. And another in 2004 due to phasing out its original model before enough slim types were stocked.

On the other hand, I still see new GameCubes as nobody around here wants them. Used ones sit there also.

Wii? I was smart and grabbed mine in the summer when its buzz wasn't as large.
