Well. I was trying to put the stuff from my smw_hdma.smc to my edited smw.smc rom and when I pasted it, absolutely nothing changed about my rom. Anyone can help me please?

Please provide detail on your process of "putting the stuff" or "pasting". What part of the ROM exactly did you move?

That has never worked so you're out of luck.

What do you mean? What am I supposed to do? I mean. Brutal Mario has HDMA effects.

You are not making any sense.

You said you pasted something from one ROM to another. What exactly was it?

If you can't answer that question, forget about assembly hacks, HDMA effects or whatever you want to have until you learned enough about things to get a basic idea what you are doing.

Incorrect. In Ice Man's HDMA effects tutorial in SMW Central. It says I should paste the table of my rom that has the HDMA effects and is headerless. I find this table in offset x981F2 and copy everything until x982C1 in my hex editor. Then I paste it onto x981F2 on my regular headfull hack. For some reason none of the HDMA effects show up at all. I even made sure that it was that level.

Just pasting a table somewhere won't yield anything since there won't be any code to run that table. Perhaps, some IPS patch you should apply was mentioned?

No applying the patch to my edited hack results in my Rom becoming corrupt.

Then, well, shit out of luck; it's obviously a patch that doesn't work on modified ROMs well.

Copying the table alone won't bring you anywhere either way; if you need it in your hack so badly, apply the patch to an empty ROM and reimport all the levels (hint: .mwl), graphics etc. from your hack ROM into it.

Hmm. I must contact this Ice Man instead. I've done way too much to restart just for HDMA.

You're not restarting, you're just moving everything from your hacked ROM to the new ROM which has HDMA all set up.

Unlock it with Recover Lunar Magic. It's in the Tools section of SMWCentral. It's a command prompt program so don't come at us saying that double-clicking on it doesn't do anything.

Ok then. Sounds cool. BTW once I move everything to my HDMA rom it will be easier to get more HDMA effects right?

EDIT: Failed. Once I began to import my GFX and Music and sprites everything just died. I'm begginig to think. Screw HDMA.

The easiest way you could make is to make the smw_hdma hack you get after using the HDMA Kit and using that as the base where you make your hack. Then you can apply custom music etc. Many people said that it won't work correctly together but I hadn't any problems.

More specific please. I once again. Used the headerless HDMA added rom with SNESTool to fix the header again. Then I used Addmusic it said success! But when I entered the level with the custom music. There was no music and when Mario died. Game crashed.

EDIT: THANK YOU! My hack looks sexier than ever!

Damn it. Cut and Pasting a new table again doesn't work. That's pretty stupid.

It seems this kind of behavior is becoming more and more frequent in the ROM Hacking community, ironically because editors are more advanced than before. Many people are seemingly trying to do things they don't even understand themselves, and whine about it in forums. Understanding what you see is one fundamental step of hacking in general. And this step usually goes BEFORE the actual hacking (read: modifying data)...

End of rant...
