Maybe I sound like a n00b but I want to learn VB and I need a Visual Basic program. But I don't know where to download one without paying for it. I searched on my laptop in hope to find one but without positive results. Can someone help me out with this?

While I wouldn't recommend getting into VB when you can learn C/C++, if you need to, Mono is a free software implementation that is worth having a look into.

Visual Basic sucks, seriously.

I recommend Python.

Visual Basic Express. Free (as in beer) and from the company that actually created the language.

That's why Theo's "free as in air" phrase makes more sense.

free as in air doesn't make more sense in this case, because free as in air is more along the lines of free as in speech.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis_versus_Libre

this distinguishes between the two, anything microsoft releases for free is most likely free as in beer.

...What?

Beer is not free, so either you're saying VBE costs money or you're insane need to explain this strangeness.

Not much of a problem in other languages, where gratis stands for "no cost" and free for "freedom". Free is probably the most abused word in the whole English vocabulary...
