Its been a while since an update, so here's the latest.

Giangurgolo has done a wonderful job on the sprites editor, which is comparable to a fully fledged Tile Editor specifically for SMRPG. It allows every sprite and animation in the game to be easily edited. This makes it possible to create completely new animations, rather than trying to work with current animations in a tile editor.

Here's an image of what it looks like for anyone wondering.

So, the only remaining major component is the Fonts / Windows / Maps editor which deals with static data, so it should be reasonably simple.

Also, as previously mentioned, the Event Editor is complete. Its very comprehensive as well. Allows every event in the game to be edited. Its also surprisingly easy to use. Here's an image of it.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

That looks incredibly impressive. I hope more editors (especially tile editors) would have an animation preview function.
The Event editor looks pretty confusing to me, but I guess I'll see about that when I try it out.

Yeah, I should have said "surprisingly easy to use considering". Its not bad once you learn what does what. And all similar commands are grouped together, so there is no hunting around for something obscure. Its all clearly laid out.

This is awesome. There is really no other word I could use to describe it.
Although I will say that the graphics look a fair bit harder to edit for those of us less inclined toward art.

Touhou 06, "Embodiment of Scarlet Devil". And yeah, that port is rather neat.

A bit more on topic, what exactly is the concept behind "animation molds"?

And on another note, will the editor support the Japanese ROM?

No, the editor wont be compatible with the Japanese or Pal versions. It could probably edit most aspects of them. Lazy Shell will warn you that your not editing the correct version of the rom, and will let you try and edit. It may not work at all though, so were not going to bother with Jap or Pal support. I don't think there's much demand for it either.

The animation molds are the collection of images used by animation sequences. The value for "Mold" (right above "Frame Duration") is the mold the frame uses.

What would be your motives for ever needing to hack the japanese SMRPG? Unused sprites or something?

I wouldn't necessarily need to hack the Japanese ROM. I was just thinking of someone who would, like maybe, I dunno, the Japanese people?

They learn English almost as a requirement, they can use the English ROM.

Doesn't stop them from spelling with Japanese text in all of their games. And rather, they learn Engrish. Completely different chestnut.

Quick question: About how many different enemy graphic sets are there total (aka all graphics for paratrooper, goomba, whatnot, so-and-so, etc)?

Comments?

Expect a lot of attention to be given to this editor upon release. At least I sincerely hope so--this is supposedly one of those games that everyone loves to death. I'm sure a few wouldn't mind making their own versions of the story through the editor, not to mention with all this fancy manipulation of customness to boot! I might actually get around to hacking again when this is released ^^

This is the very thing that has most of the people at message boards worried. The influx of people is going to be a large one, and this could very well become the new Super Mario World.

Can you expand the animation mold and tilemap of sprites?
