If this is going to be really working, then you're both the best programmers I know here.

Yes, I totally agree.
This may be equal, if not, better than lunar magic. And people have wanted to hack SMRPG for years.Maybe his will let us people who don't know how to code programs design our own hack of SMRPG.

What would you estimate to be the current safety of this tool regarding occasionally corrupting ROMs? So far, it has been a common problem with RPG editors, cf. Hyrule Magic or Temporal Flux.

WOW!!! This looks amazing, I've always wanted to hack SMRPG to make an unofficial "sequel" of sorts, but quick question will graphics import/export be supported for Lazy Shell (in a similar way FFHackster employed the feature) because I've always liked the freedom to edit my graphics in photoshop, and an
import/export feature would make graphics editing a heck of a lot easier for a
lot of people, as well as offer great opportunities for great graphics in hacks.

I dont know how FFHackster employed the feature, but yup, graphic set importing/exporting is supported. All the level graphics are compressed, and as such a pain in the ass to edit. So Lazy Shell exports and imports them decompressed and handles all that for you. As such its really easy to just open up the exported .bin file in YYCHR for instance and edit the area graphics. All the other graphics arent editable yet, but thats being decided on. Their not compressed though, so you can just edit them with YYCHR straight up.

You mention that graphics are compressed, but what would happen in the case that the graphics can't fit in their original space? Or any other variable length data? SMRPG is already 32MBit so I don't think it's easy to just tack on extra ROM with the SA-1. Are you making use of the bankswitching for extra space, or are there large voids of free space avaliable for you?

SA-1 supports ROMs of up to 64MBit using bankswitching, but as to whether SMRPG was coded to support it I don't know.

Today I finished the Rom Signature feature which includes the Author Stamp and everything associated with that. Every Rom that has been edited with Lazy Shell has a signature, although it contains no relevant information until the user enters some.

It took longer to do than expected, mostly due to the complexity of handling state, but im very satisfied with how it turned out. Here are a few screenshots of how it works.

This is the form where you enter the information to sign the rom with.

The Signature Viewer which appears when the Rom is loaded if the "Publish" flag was set when signing the rom.

Yes, Lazy Shell does support Rom Locking, although it is not an accessible feature in the editor.

An example of what happens when a signature check fails. You are given the option to enter the Author Password to try and restore the signature, or just ignore it and continue. The signature check only fails when the Rom has been edited outside of Lazy Shell, or the signature has been tampered with. So if the author went and applied an ASM hack manually, they would just have to enter their password to restore the Rom Signature.

Any comments/suggestions?

Quite a few years now.

There might been a thread about it, or was just mentioned in IRC.
