So, apparently someone found a Beta SMRPG ROM, according to #protos. Haven't seen it myself though, just tossing the link in:

Damn you i got Ricked Rolled.

That's Rick Rolled, not Ricked Rolled.

Never thought that could be done either. I wonder if I could do that with an actual cartridge... Ohhhh the damage I could do.

Though it *would* be pretty interesting if there was an alternate SMRPG ROM out there with different stuff in it.

KP: definitely possible, I"ll assure you of that. All you'd need is to pad the ROM to 4 MBytes and write it to a 4MByte cartridge.

Yes, I did. Remind me to thank Smalls next time I see him.

That said, it's a Rickroll, guys. AFAIK NO real beta SMRPG ROM has been found.

There is a hack that will be released alongside the editor, and both are being worked on at the moment. Working on the hack has revealed many bugs and annoyances, both of which have been fixed and compensated for for the most part.

Here and here are two screenshots of two maps that have been created using solely the editor. All hacking for this will be done solely by the editor.

nice screenshots.

Please provide more content in your posts. Why are they nice screenshots? Why might they not be?

I'd say it looks very nice. I've yet to get a hang of how the different layers interact with one another. I can make a level look like that, but Mario seems to go behind some parts of the level because I haven't played around with it enough, I guess.

To make Mario overlap parts of the layer, use physical tiles that have "priority 1 for objects on tile" checked in the places you want Mario to overlap all layers.

Here is a video showing the hack in progress (from the start of a new game).

Holy shit.

I love the dialogue. The scripts work wonderfully! I should show this to my cousin, he'd shit bricks. How far are you guys going to go for this hack? I see a lot of unused stuff being used now, especially with your other videos you uploaded.

Good work!~

This is some very neat progress you are showing there (am I the only one thinking of 4chanesque childhood rape when seeing spaghetti western language in what once was a kids' game?). However, how does all of this integrate with the Bowser's Castle intro?

Also, I think the green "poison" clouds are a bit over the top/annoying at times.

I think the clouds are great. I love the way the town was put together... it looks dark and dreary, somthing that's hard to do in that game. Great accomplishments made there!

I'm sure he's thought about it, it's probably on the drawing board. I did a couple of intros myself with the awesome script editor they have, I'm sure they can come up with something very nice especially when you consider what they have already.

Awsomely fantastic.
Literally, a masterful piece of work.

...man, the hype is skyrocketing!

And...I have questions:

1)What type of scripting is used within the editor?
2)Taking the scripting method into account, can the following be a possibility:

-Creating custom overworld maps unlike the ones that are already a part of the ROM? (Say you draw your own map in Photoshop/PaintShopPro, then script the waypoints and locations in)
-Importing custom graphics? (Monsters, Textures, Objects)
-Importing custom SPCs/MIDIs based on SMRPG's in-game insturments, like Addmusic for SMW?

...that's about it
(Some of these may be unlikely to happen, but hey, an unlikely question is better than no question at all.)

...I'm fiending man. I await the release!

Posting to fix an error in the thread.

I don't know a whole lot about the scripting, but it's effective and easy to use. Music editing I heard might perform a no-show, however.

unless that hack is just a demonstration and not the real one they're working on then no. but there is a hack getting released with the editor, chances are it's that one.

I'm assuming it will be like this: That hack is to Lazy Shell as Demo World: TLC is to Lunar Magic.

The hack might serve as a template for learning the functions of the hack.

From the looks of it, it seems:

A)You can add special effects to your Maps much like Layers in Lunar Magic. Creativity
abounds.

B)Custom Items + Custom Item sale setups are possible. Therefore, custom Items are a definite.

C)The limits of an SMRPG map seem to have been partially broken. I'm guessing that, ideally, the map area should be either 1024x1024, 1536x1536, or even bigger. Since SMRPG is still a ROM file, there may be limitations, but best case scenario: The area of editing may be bigger than we think

D)Scripting movements for monsters and cutscenes may not be all scripting. Best case scenario: There is a scenario editor that has all the sprite movements detailed into tabs, commands, and message editing.

To Omega and/or Giangurgulo: Is beta testing in the works? I'm down to test and nitpick/constructively criticize all the aspects of the hack.

Oh! oh! Can I help criticize too? I would love to help, I won't abandon this opportunity! I also do intend to make a hack actually, I have been planning ever since I heard there was an editor truly being constructed. But that doesn't really get me into a seat without your approval, so I ask either Omega or Giangurgulo, could I help test the beta and criticize?

There no point in beta testing if a program is 99%dunn.

Actually, that's exactly when you beta test. Still, Omega and Giangurgulo would probably pick from well known, intelligent, and diligent community members for beta testing.

Just wait for the opportunity to get your hands on it like the rest of us.
