I bet one could introduce a flag to certain monsters which would give the appearance of higher stats. For example, if you set the flag to raise their attack, the defense of your party merely falls. Or if you want to raise their Magic Defense, your party's Magic Attack falls. However, this would require an extra byte for every monster in the game and I'm not sure anyone would want to put that in manually. It's just an idea for any coder hardcore enough to put it into their own hack.
I myself plan on putting in infinite MP for certain monsters, that way the possibility of long battles is ruined by the shortcomings of 255 MP max.

Is it possible to make an accessory effect the monster? Like if you equip an item like a 'Scare Badge' or whatever, it would make the monster have a chance to run away from battle (like Bowser does on some enemies). Or another example, you equip some accessory that lets you hit Goombas harder (or a set monster). Could something like that be done? I would think you could just use the battle scripts...

I also have another question, can you change the stuff on the map screen, such as text, where text is displayed, picture on screen etc.? Could you not just make text display, but having pictures/icons go along with it? That would be sweet if that could be done. I don't want to replace tiny the letters already in game, because I want to use those too. I want to use completely different graphics.

Lastly, are you going to add a "What is this?" help command? I don't remember what it's called, it's the Windows point and click help (the curser with the question mark next to it). Is there going to be a feature like that? It'll be convenient instead of searching through the help contents, you'll get the help right then and there quickly.

And...out comes Sagittaire.

Omega: Dude, LOVELY. Just...utterly...lovely. I'd say take your time, but..aw..dude, this MUST see the light of day! Dont get me wrong, take your time...but DAMN. It's like knowing you're going to receive a million bucks in the mail in 3 months, and all you have to do is wait. Hell, If possible, I'd be willing to try a beta version via PM or something. I plan to hack SMRPG EXTENSIVELY, and this is basically...me being a kid in a candystore.

Anyone with intent to edit: Let us collaborate. PM me.

I'm moderately sure that asking this isn't going to make them come any faster.

No, we don't. We do not need small updates, we are not paying them for this and it will be done when they are ready. They will update this thread when they are ready.

Any posts asking for updates from this point on are going to be nuked.

Or, they can cancel the project alltogether.

As it's a sacrifice on Omega and his team, they reserve rights to work at their leisure, proven that the overall product is completed sometime down the road. They have lives too.

...all I gotta say is: The moment it's released, big hype and creativity will have a new haven to shine. Hype is...always good.

Dude, CHILL... we don't need updates. That's being needy. What we need is the editor. So just chill, man. Don't be pushy. Let the team work! When it's ready it's ready! You gotta wait for food to be cooked to eat it. Just wait, or you'll get salmonella and the runs!

Eh... not so much for me. I was hyped a few months ago. By now, when it comes out, I'm pro'lly going to be indifferent--mostly 'cause this project has been dead for a while.

Hype would be including updates every now and then. As it is, it's just something really cool that you might get on down the road at some point :/

There is a hack that will be released alongside the editor, and both are being worked on at the moment. Working on the hack has revealed many bugs and annoyances, both of which have been fixed and compensated for for the most part.

Here and here are two screenshots of two maps that have been created using solely the editor. All hacking for this will be done solely by the editor.

So, apparently someone found a Beta SMRPG ROM, according to #protos. Haven't seen it myself though, just tossing the link in:
