I listen to a mixture of talk radio, crappy commercial radio when I'm bored. It angers my blood to unimaginable degrees. Lately, though I've been listening to a lot of Russian language music. So, that aside.

I enjoy in this order: rock, classical, jazz, reggae, "heavy" genres, rap-electronica-various genres, etc, post-rocky sort of progressive weirdo music, folk-bluegrass-sorta genres, the smatterings of traditional music from all over the world, country.

I dislike commercial pop radio. I loathe it. I wish pain and destruction upon the recording industry for sucking. I hope that one day the internet seas are so awash with benign pirates that the popular music forms of today - the super high production studio-farm crap.

But I am all about OMC. They rule?

What kinds of Russian music do you listen to? Neither the schmaltzy, somewhat monotonous single singer-songwriter guitar ballads that my mother used to like nor the ripoff of the worst stratum of Western pop you typically hear on the radio make for particularly fond memories of it for me...

This discussion might be pretty much impossible to lead without throwing clichés back and forth nowadays, but I have the staunch impression that Japanese popular music, on average, is decisively superior to its western counterparts as far as producing original and memorable melodies goes. With my tendency to listen to every song I like until I can't stand it anymore, I notice that the handful of good western songs mostly - with exceptions in very small numbers - only last a fraction of the time the good Japanese ones do.
Is it just me spiraling down the pits of weeaboo or am I observing something correctly there?

Coulda sworn I'd posted here... But it's an ooooold thread, so I might've steered clear.

I listen to nice oldies music from the 70s. Boston, Styx, and other shit like that is my cup of tea. I listen to newer stuff sometimes (Mostly only DragonForce and Barenaked Ladies), but most of the time, it's stuff from before the 80s.

Well from the poll, I would have to say Rock/Metal, although I really like video game music too. When I was younger, I was really into Country as well and I sort of listen to Country stuff every now and then nowadays.

2 month bump and a pretty short post. Be careful about that

Also, bzuka, you're going to want to post in the "Introduce Yourself" thread in General Chat, which I don't think you've done yet.

More on the topic, I honestly love pretty much all types of music. It just depends on the song and the artist, and sometimes even just my mood, for me to like a song or not. I generally don't like as much rap, some country, and a lot of "emo rock". Not to mention generic bands where there are like 5 different ones that sound EXACTLY THE SAME

Classical, mainly, followed closely by VGM, then some rock.

And now to...place major emphasis on my next statement.

I absolutely HATE Rap, Techno, Trance, Disco, ANYTHING along those lines. I will listen to pretty much anything else.

Classical music, soundtracks and songs from video games and anime, Trance and some not-completely-mainstream examples of J-rock are what seems to make up the vast bulk of my everyday listening material.

I can appreciate nearly every genre except perhaps for non-music like Death Metal though.

I noticed that the classical/anime/trance combination, in particular, is something I share with extremely few people - though combinations of any two are relatively common.

Like blackhole89, classical music, VGM + Anime soundtracks and trace are my most favourite listening material, but I do listen to pretty much every genre out there. The only thing I'd probably not listen to is french music though, I find the majority (of what I've been given from my french teacher) to be pretty dull.

I'll listen to most anything that's played, I'm not particularly picky when it comes to music. I guess since I was in band all through school up until my senior year, I gained real appreciation for all types of music since I had played a considerable amount of different genres for concerts and whatnot. I still really like making music, though I rarely do nowadays. Anyways, in short, I like anything as long as it really is music and not garbled crap.

I compulsively listen to romatic or impressionist music, especially piano. NES music is second most listened to. Everything else is a distant third.

Fly to the coins
I usually listen to mostly Video Game Music, chiptune, synth, or orchestrated in that category, or music in a video game, such as Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2 which have a nice variety of songs in them.

But otherwise I might say anime/J-pop, some trance, some instrumental, a small dash of jazz, and an even smaller pinch of alternative.

I do listen to or have listened to a little bit of everything though, and I don't really hate any in particular genres of music except maybe one; since there might be one particular artist/album/track which catches your ear over most of the other content that you may either not like much in particular, or dislike.
