The Story is based off of SM64. Mario gets a letter from peach telling that she's baked a cake for Mario and he's invited to come. BUT WAIT! THERE'S A STORM COMING!!!

Ok I thought a video would be enough but here's the pics of my (For Now) first level: Peach Castle

We Enter here. Judging by the lightning, things dont look so good.

Here's Peach and Friends! Peach tells Mario the cake isn't ready yet and he should just go explore the castle.

Still Stormy, here we are in the courtyard!

Then Mario goes into a pipe into the sewers of Peach Castle. (Ignore the glitched spotlight, It'll be fixed.)

And now we're back at-OH NO BOWSER CAPTURED PEACH!!!

Bowser has somehow turned the water to lava in the courtyard, and there is now a goal here.

I don't see anything wrong in the castle screenshots, they look good, but why
the status bar is disabled in these screens and not in the video?.

So I could show more in the Pic.

I really like how you seem to have a constantly evolving storyline. Very nice use of the ground Lakitus. I think there could be a bit more complexity to the level, however, and I don't like that Koopa Troopa 1-up combo so early in the game. Overall, though, a very good start.

The level seems too linear...if Mario is exploring the castle, then why is there only one path to take?

Aside from that, it looks good.

Yes, I know it's too linear and that koopa troopa string will be removed. I'll add another passage. Though you can't enter the castle after Peach is captured. I mean, what else could I do? I'm not an ASM god. And after that, the levels won't be linear. And, about the koopa string, in the original game, on the second level, there was one. I'm still gonna remove it and replace it with another enemy.

That's true, but I guess it seems to me that this is like the "intro," so the 1-up combo kind of seems out of place. It's your project, though, so do whatever you want.

And you're right - it's hard for it not to be linear.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of this.

Personally, I see nothing but utter failure at the end of this project.

This is an actual attempt at a hack, so don't put it down like that. It may turn out to be good.

Personally, I see nothing but utter failure at the end of this project.

Why?

It seems to be integrating the storyline so much into the gameplay that the amount of gameplay takes a direct hit. If the rest of the game works on a similar basis to the opening part, it will get boring quickly. The level design, while not ridiculously difficult like lots of people seem to like doing these days, is mostly boring looking, and appears to be entirely linear. Also, using the smiling princess behind a spiked wall to show her being held prisoner was silly.

It doesn't mean that this project will fail in the end, but unless you make some changes the chances are going to remain.

*The above was merely the opinion of some random forum goer, and in now way answers the quoted question in the place of Grey Megatron. Also, Brawl needs more Geno.

Why do look at linear as bad? Ever since TSRP2 came out, it seems like all people have been liking are TSRP2 clones. It's not the linearity, it's the level design.

Of course, from what I see, the level design needs to be improved a bit in this hack.

I don't really like the look of that castle tileset. Couldn't you make it darker and have some more chroma rather than being of a plain very bright gray shade?

Wish Granted. Palettes Darkened.

Now with Gustys!

Oh, and I've added an additional hallway with several rooms to reduce linearity!

Better, but still needs improvement. I don't see why there would be a smily Gusty in a dark place. Maybe edit its graphics so it's frowning instead of smiling. Also, the character palettes are too dark now.

He didn't say to darken everything, just the castle tiles.

Meh, I see nothing that particularly makes me want to play this. Add some gimmicks.

The interior castle tiles look wrong. They seem to not fit together. D:
