I kinda liked the super mario world 2 style music. I guess cause i never heard it in a smw hack before.

I have been working so slowly lately that I have been working on the same level for the past several weeks - changing things here and there while doing some spritework and other graphical work.

Here are my revised bridge graphics - I like them so much better than the default ones from the original SMW.

Mario contends with a Pipe-Dwelling Lakitu and a Venus Fire Trap.

Here is something that I made recently for Schwa that I will probably end up using in my underwater levels as well - I call him Tora! Tora! Tora! Ted.

Yep! I made it for Schwa, but I ended up liking it a lot, so I will use it too.

Thanks to DotsAreCool, I now have a userbar for my project! I have been wanting one of these for months. Feel free to pin it to your profile/footer if you like my project and want to show support!

Mario crosses the Deep Blue Sea with the help of some friends...

Well, it was a pain in the butt, but I changed the Sumo Bros. graphics in my project. I was never a big fan of the enemy since they deviated so far from "normal" Hammer Bros.-type enemies. Anyway, here is what my graphics look like in action. I would love some constructive criticism - I've just been staring at it too long and need some outside feedback.

However, it is worth noting that since making that video, I have changed the palette of the Sumo Bros., which I am now calling Magma Bros. I also changed the lightning bolt into a ball of magma that the Magma Bros. spit down at the Mario Bros. The video is still an accurate representation of how this sprite animates itself, but here are the new palette/graphics:

That's all for now!

I really hated the Sumo Bros. but with this graphical change, it looks like a decent enemy. I suggest that you should change the graphics of the flame that is on the floor, I everytime thought it don't looks good in SMW. Try to make it looking more like normal flame, curved, not that tall. To come to the other screenshot with the dolphins: I like the FG, it fits very well with the style. And about your edited Banzai Bill: It's one of the most interesting and good looking enemys I've ever saw. Great job on it. I hope to see a demo soon, you're very good in SMW Hacking, keep it up and make us happy with that hack.

Mario climbs up one of the support pillars underneath Ruby Bridge. The climbing aspect was inspired in part by Whomp's Fortress in SM64.

@Buu-Huu - Thanks for the compliments - coming from someone with your graphical skills, it's really nice.

Heh, reminds me of something I had planned for my level "Candlelight Tower," but never got around to doing it.

Also, I'd suggest making those blocks match the color of the support beam and maybe fit a black outline into the beam.

How long is Candlelight Tower? And does it figure prominently in your project? I just wondered since the Candle enemy is on your userbar.

Yeah - I was trying to figure out what to do with those blocks. I need to make sure whatever I do, they are easy to tell apart from the main beam - maybe I can make them in the same palette range, but slightly darker - I just don't want them to blend in too much and become "invisible."

I know, this uses advanced knowledge of ASM but I have a good idea for using this idea in conjuction with your tower level. It should be a sprite or sprite command that doesn't lets the screen scroll down if you go down so if you fall down, you die immediately instead of falling down the whole tower. I don't know if there's already such a command like this in Lunar Magic but I think, this would be an interesting idea. Otherwise, it looks very interesting, I've never saw this idea used in a hack.

That is a really good idea - I remember a lot of video games being like that (e.g. Castlevania). It can't be too hard to make a sprite like that, if the person has the right knowledge. This sprite wouldn't work well in this spot, but it would work really great in some other places I have planned.

Thanks again!

Ever since I started on my project, I was disappointed that there was a Giant Koopa custom sprite, but no graphics to go with it that matched SMW Koopa Troopas. The Koopa Troopas in SMW and newer Mario games stroll around upright, but in SMB1 and SMB3 they crawled on the ground like real turtles. In my project, though, the Giant Koopas from SMB3 finally get to walk upright:

I based these graphics off of the Sledge Bros. and then just modified them as I saw fit. I think it turned out pretty well, myself. Also, note that I redid the Giant Spiny in SMB3 style, which is what the small Spinies in my game are based on.

You know, the style.

Heh, that's just what I felt like slapping on the userbar at that time. Not to mention I got a new userbar:

I need some fresh eyes and opinions on this. Which of the ledges on the stone pillars in the above pictures look better (brown or gray), and why? If you don't think either look good, what can I do to make them look better? Thanks!

I think that grey would be better if you edited the palette to make it closer to the beam's palette.

Try using the gray blocks, but edit them to have brown on top of them for a weathered look.

If that is not possible, then I like the gray blocks more, because the brown blocks stand out too much.

While I've been working on my project, I also made a couple of custom sprites that I wanted to use and that two other folks had requested. Since they are fairly simple edits of the original Birdo sprite (but too complex for most beginners), I decided to release them for public use:
- Bullet Bros.
- Torpedo Bros.
Enjoy!
