I'd probably just commit suicide if either happened, since I don't think life would be worth living as a cripple, but if I were blind I would at least be able to hear the music I play.

Plus "Blind Guitarist" would just be cool.

There's a few famous blind musicans, and a deaf composer... so I guess it would work out .

...but I can imagine it being bit of a hell with being a composer and deaf. While they could imagine it inside their head, they wouldn't be able to hear it for real...

Is there a difference?

Saying that hearing music in your head and listening to it are the same is like saying thinking of a sandwich is as good as eating one.

I have a keen sense of both sight and sound. My eyes have been rated by my doctor as "better than perfect" as I could read the bottom line on the chart 20 feet away. I'd rather be deaf because my abnormal sight could pick up the difference.

You can't play video games if you're blind.

Sounds like a claim of the reverse ability to what the protagonist in that one Marvel comic based live-action movie (what was its name again?) did ("seeing" with sound after losing his eyesight).
Then, imagining the sound of waveforms you see can probably be learned to a certain extent... just doubt anybody tried yet

blind. My guitar playing is everything to me. And yeah, there have been blind guitarists -- stevie wonder played bass, theres this guy on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmJv15w0Ms0 , as well as countless others...

so yeah, I pick blind. my sight is a burden on me anyway. The things I see in this world that I want I'm unable to get, and only hurt me in the end, so good riddance sight if I had the choice...

Deaf, since it's hard to be an architect when you're blind.

true story, a few years ago my brother had a short tenure as a deaf dj at clubs

i think i should also add that anyone who would choose blindness over deafness is an idiot

blind people are handicapped in lifestyle

deaf people just cant hear. big deal. they can still drive cars, BE INDEPENDENT, watch tv, play videogames, go on the computer, and while not very obvious, even music, if only minutely, can still be enjoyed while deaf. they can still have a life of their own.

my brother's deaf and if you were to ask him if he would give up his sight to hear again he'd be like "are you fucking kidding me" in that weird retarded sounding tone that deaf people have when talking

on an unrelated note, he had the choice as a teenager to undergo surgery to regain some hearing -- he went against it because he didnt want to lose his deaf friends. however, he has more friends who are of hearing than he does deaf ones. deaf people are not handicapped!!

Driving cars while deaf?! If you were about to get hit by a car or a train while driving, would you hear it before you would get hit?

Deaf, by far. Didnt even have to think. In fact, after smell/taste, which are really the same thing, I would lose my hearing. If I lost my sight, i would consider my life basically over.

To address the above post, severe accidents are actually worse if you see it comming. If you know its comming, youll tense up and have far worse muscle/ligament damage because of it. If your loose, youll just bet thrown around like a rag doll.

I once saw something on David Suzuki's show about a program that emits sounds for the blind which goes directly to their brain and it will allow that blind person to "see" light and shadow. For some reason, the sound will quickly be recognized by the human brain which directs the eyes to see these lights/shadows.

As for me, blind. I'd want to see how cool it would be to see these "visions".
