Oh snap! Part time, but with school and homework to finish, I'm beat like a red-headed step-child. I'm a cashier at a burger joint which experiences two hells on opposite poles. A place where you're busiest when there's nothing to do. Weekdays are empty and I'm usually doing medial jobs non-stop. Weekends should be better where I can get some people interaction!

You guys work? where?

I filled out an application at Claire's last week, and I should hopefully be getting a call later by tomorrow about whether or not I got that job

I just put in my two weeks notice at my current job. I got tired of a lot of things dealing with it. They didn't pay me enough to allow me to live where I'm going to. So yeah.... fun eh?

Ugh, people interaction. I'm never having a job that deals with customer service again.

Nah, working with customers isn't that bad. It's the people you work with that complain about customers.

I just got a job at Sam's Club. I push around the carts all day. I am actually suprised on what the job is like. It's really laid back, and I could literally go the whole day without talking to management. I am my own boss.

<!--stupid center and width hack-->
I work on a Help Desk, although I've not been working much lately due to illness. I won't be back for a further two weeks owing to this cursed virus.

I don't mind my job, but it can be tiring and stressful at times. And some clients are very rude and demanding.

A little more than a year ago I got my first full-time job. I had taken a few part time jobs here and there since I was 14, but I had never really put forth a committed effort to KEEP a job because I had been going to school.

Well, since that's a dream for some time down the road (if ever) I'm currently pushing two jobs. One full- and one part-time. I've kept a job as a cashier at a gas station (Valero) for a year now and I accepted a full-time job over at a local RadioShack in July. Honestly, the whole working for barely over minimum wage for both jobs sucks but there is currently nothing better and I'm actively searching/trying to find better.

For now, at least, I can't say that I'm in trouble with bill or anything and I'm living fairly comfortable and couldn't really care that I only have 56K. I'm glad I have anything at all at this point.

Pretty much ... what I said here.

Yeah, Jiffy Lube for two years. Great working in a company where customers just walk on in pissed off all day everyday, I love it! ...

Oh I get that and I have to walk up to them in my other job and marvel at how most of them think they know so much and yet know so little.

Thankfully, though, there are the rare ones that come through and put even my knowledge to shame. That's what makes a week really. That or a dozen phone sales for commission.

I'm a professional Acmlm's poster tutor at the university I go to. Usually there's no students so I just sit around and surf the Internet and get paid for it.

Oh man do I hate that as well. In fact, this happened yesterday. A guy drove up and started argueing with me about his "Brake Fluid Light" coming on. Then he went on to argue about how its on our checklist (of the fluids we check), and was angry that we didn't top it off.

What's funny? We don't f*cking touch Brake Fluid, its not on the checklist. I myself, not knowing the checklist word for word by memory was just completely confused. We do sometimes check the fluid because customers will ask, but in my 2 years of working there we've never been allowed to touch the fluid and add to it or anything. I was simply confused about the arguement and finally just called over to my Asst. Manager, had him talk to the guy, and I just walked away.

Minutes later, the customer walks up to me ... "Oh hey buddy, I'm sorry I'm stupid. I meant Power Steering Fluid. oh LOL".

In my head: "You freaking dumbass."

I'm harassing my university to give me a job as a stock boy at the book store.

I imagine it'll be like living in the neverending story.

Oh yea, I get those, but not in that particular aspect.

And as for the guy; he can check it himself. It's really not that hard to lift the hood and go...'Power Steering'...'Brake Fluid'...ooo diz low bettah top off lar...

Checking fluids can be done by a two-year-old so if he's gonna give that crap about stuff that people would normally -not- want done anyways (in my experience, I would rather not have the hood lifted when I take it to someone unless absolutely necessary) then he should jam a sharpstick up his ass.

I'll add my own. About six months or so ago, I had someone come in who didn't quite get the concept of pre-pay. We get a lot of these and unfortunately we had to convert to pay first because people kept driving off with our gas. We were suffering losses of about 500-1000 dollars a week; we had no choice. Well, the guy decided to argue about not wanting to pay first...and I mean really argue with the voice level raised.

Now, if you guys know me, I don't really take much offense from lamers or get scared, so I calmly told him that if he wanted to get anything done, he could use his card at the pump or pay whatever he wanted to get here in cash, check or credit. It was up to him. So after he kept on muttering some incoherent garble, he drops twenty and runs out to his pump to get his gas, nothing else said.

He gets to about 19.82 and he notices the pump slowing down and walks back in complaining that he's not going to get past 20 dollars. I told him flat out before and after that what you pay is what you get (in a less demeaning manner). He was basically to the point of throwing his fist across the counter and I've just got a smug look on my face the whole time because he has no clue and...even if he did...security camera plus sue equals win.

I mean an old lady basically told him he was being rude. He stfu right afterwards. I'm surprised the lady hadn't spoke up sooner but I think it dispersed everything.

I'm a software engineer at Conduit IT. I started about six months ago, and I'm very happy thus far. I enjoy the work, I have my own quiet office, and the compensation is way above what I got at my old job. Project planning and management are well organized, so we work efficiently and get things done. Feeling as if you're fixing and building (rather than, say, standing under a drainpipe shoveling shit) goes a long way toward job satisfaction.
