Hooray for chkdsk.

Last night I shut my computer down the "wrong" way because it was taking too long.

Today? Omfg I'm not logged in to the board. Login... wtf?! It's asking me if I want to continue sending unencrypted info. Turns out chkdsk ate my cookies.txt and my settings for Firefox.

EDIT: typo.

Who uses bookmarks anyway?

Also, if chkdsk "ate" a file, chances are it was stored in a hidden FOUND.([0-9])([0-9])([0-9]) directory on the drive that it was found on to begin with, e.g. FOUND.000. Each of those should contain a number of .CHK files of which one might contain the data you are looking for (open in notepad or a hex editor to check). If you find that file again, you can rename and move it back to its intended location.

too bad all its really amusing stuff is long in the past, and the new comics are really quite mediocre

if it was still good, i might care about it
I dunno about you, but I found the latest comic hilarious.

Why? What's funny about that? It's just 'desperate nerds are desperate" which is the same gag they've used... How many times? The same joke loses its humor when played out that many times, even if it is dressed differently each time.

Something sort of similar happened to me a couple weeks ago (except without the chkdsk part).

Luckily, I was able to recover everything, using this page as a guide.

I shut my computer down the wrong way more often than not and my bookmarks/cookies/Firefox settings never get lost... so the problem obviously isn't Firefox.

It's a strange thing. Just about everyone I've spoken with thinks it's a good idea, yet it still hasn't happened. It probably just needs a decent banner first...

Good news, guys~

Firefox... actually backed up my bookmarks on the 20th and those are the bookmarks I want.

prefs.js and my bookmarks list still reside in C:\found.001\dir0000.chk in case I want to view them for some reason.

The prodigal bookmarks have finally returned.

I don't keep regular backups or anything, though a couple of months ago I saved them all to a file.

If you can come up with a better banner, fine, but you won't because this banner is fantastic

Imagine viewing this sucker on a high-def screen.

Digital Perfection.

And ultra small file size

EDIT: Failing this - We could always use this.

Hey, I like the current banner.

The one you just posted is nice, but it's a bit too simple...
