This is my hack! I actually started it way back in March, but anyway, I plan on releasing a demo of the first world February 3rd.

It has:

Custom Music
ExGFX
Custom Blocks
Custom Sprites
Custom Levels/OW (duh)

The story... well, Mario goes to Peach's castle of course, and finds it strangely empty...

Peach's room in the castle. It holds a secret...

Another room.

Huh? What is this place?

And what is this book? The Tale of Elementia, of course!

Awakening Hill, where the adventure begins.

Mushroom Woods. The red mushrooms are bouncy!

Treetops. You're at the forest floor right now...

But you can climb the sky!

Underground area.

Earth Temple. At the end of each world is an Elemental Temple, instead of your generic castle levels.

Inside the Earth Temple.

OW, with just a couple levels revealed.

This looks quite good. I like the flat shading you used as a distinction from all those 3Dish shaded and glossy SMW graphics we get lately.

However, the "underground area"/"Mushroom Woods" floor graphics could use a somewhat more distinguishable border.

Looks nice! The idea of an "elemental temple" is quite unique. The underground FG graphics, though...it may look better if the ground and dirt palettes were similar colors instead of brown and purple.

I haven't updated this in a while, but I have a couple Youtube videos of levels from the first world. Enjoy!

Looks nice. I see you got the Elemental coins working. My only suggestion is to apply the "Free Scroll" patch, because it may be tough to keep track of Mario when bouncing on the mushrooms if the screen doesn't scroll with him.

Actually, I tried that a while ago, but ended up changing it back. The camera moves worse than most 3-D Sonic games and it made Mushroom Woods a bit of a headache, not to mention it spoils a secret area in one of the levels. However, I've tried to design the level so it's fairly easy to see where you are, and where you need to go.

Your level design is spot on. This looks like it would be really fun to play, because it seems challenging without being overly hard. My only critique would be that some of your ground is kind of plain, and the transition between the forest floor and treetops seems too different, but those are minor quibbles. I love your bouncy mushrooms.

I don't like the YI cave music's conversion at all; also, the SMB1 underground music doesn't quite fit the cloud area to my taste. Try to make your clouds less rectangular too...

Other than that, you are on the right track. Perhaps add some more detail to your graphics...

I really don't like the music that much though...the forest maze song sounds wrong (maybe it's the horn or whatever that is), and the YI song seems too boring.

::ALERT ALERT ALERT::

Well...you sorta stole my idea I'm using in my hack. I may be on an extended hiatus from ROM hacking, but that doesn't mean I like to see my ideas ripped from the silicon seas of board2 and marginally tweaked for all to see. Elemental temples?? Read my topic

End of rant, your hack looks pretty good. No really, I've never had anything against you, Supertails. Nice rips and palette choices. They say imitation is the best form of flattery...I've gotta admit not many hacks have an "elemental" theme. I guess inspiration cuts both ways: when I start working on my hack again, maybe you'll see some cues from this hack. Whatever...

Sorry, but I've never seen any of your topics, nor heard of your hack. :/ Sorry if we share some common elements. Again, I started this hack about 10 months ago, and there will probably be quite a few differences from what you've told me. Such as:

*Spirits lending you power when you free them. By which I mean, making colored switches solid.
*Fairly open overworld. You can access four worlds from the beginning, and two more are avaliable a bit later.
*Each temple features a "custom" boss. While they're not going to be amazing like Marx from KSS, they'll be custom sprites put to good use.
*A couple really interesting world ideas I have not revealed yet.

Phazorite, yeah I looked at your hack, and it's a lot different from mine in a lot of ways. Even the elemental temple looks different. I'm going for more puzzle-oriented areas in a similar vein to The Legend of Zelda. Also, I'm basically destroying most SMW FG's/BG's. It appears I created mine around the same time as you made yours as well. So I wouldn't worry if I were you. *shrugs*

There are some scrolling issues but your level design and graphic choices are far beyond superb!

Scrolling issues? You mean areas where you can't see because the camera doesn't move? I wish I could fix that, but free scroll basically ruins the whole thing. I'll try to make it a bit easier to see though.

I really like the level designs a lot, and the music fits in great! I am not a fan of the graphics at all, and the story sounds like something I've heard a dozen times before (and is way too serious for Super Mario, in my opinion), but I don't play hacks for the story anyway, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The level design more than makes up for any inadequacies in my book, so I'd definitely be willing to check this out! Keep us updated.

Don't worry, I haven't revealed a whole lot of the story, but what I can tell you is that it won't be generic, I'm putting quite a bit of effort into this, being a writer myself. As for the graphics, I'm sorry you don't like them: I'm tweaking the palette for the cave FG a bit, and I might add some trees on the bottom of Treetops, as well as change the clouds, but there won't be any huge differences.

I do have another level done, but it's a secret one, and I'd like to keep it a secret for the time being.

EDIT: A few more screens of the Earth Temple.

It's high time I made a new video. This is Midnight Heights, a secret, bonus level in the first world.

Also, I'm practically done with the Earth Temple.

Looks like I can't get in... where's the key?

There it is! But how do I reach it?

I'd suggest making the 100 coin block disappear with the use of a generator and on/off animation.

Maybe, but I don't see it as very necessary.

Ha, that, my friend, is sick. Awesome. I gots a similar thing (temples are called "Crystalia" instead of "temples", from an ancient civilization) but no custom bosses. Makes me want to know how to do in-depth hacking in the first place -.-

Very nice, looks great fun to play ^.^
