So you mean having a wall that's not a wall isn't bad? Are you implying users are stuck with my tileset attribute definitions? Cos they aren't at all.

Besides, since you get the full 65000+ tile index range, you're free to clone tiles so you can have your fake walls and strangely safe tall grass anyway.

Why would you want to waste memory and space cloning tiles when you can use that space for additional, new and unique tiles. It seems inefficient to have to make the same tile with different behavior exist in a tileset when you can simply have the tile exist once and have it behave on the spot however you'd like. Gamefreak didn't make their map engine this way just for shits and giggles.

Yes, having a wall that is not a wall is not bad, you can have unique maps with secrets and surprises with clever implementation of various things this way. Try thinking outside of the box =(

Erika, I don't think making a huge issue of every little thing in Kawa's engine is really going to get your point across as well as you want. Beyond that, I fail to see how having a different mapping engine that doesn't fit what you think it should be is going to make all that much difference.

Hellooo?

16 bit tile range in OP right now gives 65536 tiles at most.

Highest tile count I can remember in the original? 1024. Because the rest is attributes.

Wasted tiles on rebuilding the proverbial fake wall: at most 10.

Space left for additional, new and unique stuff: woah mamma!

Sukasa, I'm not making a huge issue about it, I merely announced that I went and did something about it.

And it doesn't matter how many tiles it takes up, the fact of the matter is, it's just sloppy...it's something that should not have to be done. Which is why I did something about it o-o

Saying something is not good because it is sloppy is a bad argument? I'm sure when working a real job that sloppy work is highly discouraged if not chastised.

It is absolutely a valid argument.

Stop trolling Erika. If you fixed the problem, prove it. Show us how much more efficient your fix is than what Kawa had originally implemented.

Also, instead of making your own version, why not just help Kawa fix his problems instead of being such a bitch about it?

I tried working with him from the BEGINNING but I was kicked off my own project, so obviously it can be seen that working WITH him is not going to happen. There's really nothing to prove, other than I changed it so behavior bytes are assigned per tile as opposed to hardcoded. I'm making my own version because I still want to work on my own damn project =\

But I forgot this is the internet, nothing but drama can come of anything D8 I'm out.

Well, excuse me for interfering once again...
but I prefer Kawa's format.

I don't think that walkable walls will be used often and it will waste much more memory if you define on a per-tile base whether the tile is walkable or not, as most tiles will have a default value. It might be different from the official, but using distinct tiles for rare exceptions like walkable walls seems much more intelligent...

So yeah. After spending copious amounts of time looking for data on egg moves, I found it.

Right under my friggin' nose.

In a document I wrote myself.

So yeah, I hit myself. Sorry 'bout that hon ^^

Also, I was talked into writing an importer for AdvanceMap *shiver* to go along with the EliteMap one. So there ya go, heh...

Is there any major differences between AdvanceMap and Elitemap anyway.

I figure it's a good idea either way, since AdvanceMap seems to be... still actively developed on. Last I checked anyway.

It doesn't matter which one's better anymore. I wrote a program to convert original ROM's maps into OP XML files. So you just give it a file name and map header offset. You get the map data, connections and general positions of the four basic object types so the worst is over.

Also, here's a recording I made of the box system I'm working on this week: natch
It's a little outdated. So far we got multiple boxes, moving monsters around in them and moving to/from the party. Left is the wallpaper choosing, box names, sidebar information, actual menus (right now it just picks up, puts down and switches for you), re-adding the live stats block and keeping the party consistent.

Not to stoke any fires here but the way I remember it:
1) Keitaro starts the project. He's supposed to code, while I sprite. (There's Kev's answer. tl;dr starts here.)
2) I decide to flex my code glands and make a little starting boilerplate thingy.
3) Tony sees it shortly after apparently having a HD crash. I take over coding.
4) At one point, he temporarily gives up on being project leader. Erika takes over from him for a short time.
5) For reasons I forgot, but I assume the same as before, Erika gives it back. Tony then gives the project to me.
6) SonicandTails temporarily "leads" but admits he's bad at it. Team leader is officially "????".

At some point Erika makes a fuss, thinking she's still project leader for some reason.

So right now, there's no "official" project leader though I effectively am. I code and draw, Darkdata maps, Sukasa writes and Cearn helps with the tough code parts and studies of Pokémon Fire Red.

So uh, take over and don't let anyone try to egoistically steal your awesome project.

Problem solved?

Like I said, project's basically mine. Been so for quite some time now. I can dig up when Erika took over and dropped it if you want.

New version, now with boxes.

When I decided to leave the debug menu in, a lot of people tried to choose "Quickstart" or any of the other tests. These require a savegame to function correctly, if at all. This version contains a check to prevent this and give a sensible error message.

Having tried the new version, attack names glitch up when Pikachu learns a new move.
