Laptop, specifically. This one, more specifically. It's alright (threw away Vista and installed Ubuntu).

comparison:
- This processor beats the shit out of the Pentium III 1.4GHz obviously. Old computer was 32-bit, laptop is 64-bit (and I am using a 64-bit OS). Ubuntu boots about 4x faster than the desktop.
- 256MB of RAM sucked. 1GB is good.
- The desktop has a 250GB disk, but my files still all fit on this 120GB disk with 30GB free... I'll probably buy a bigger disk though.
- Desktop has an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 128MB; hard to tell if this Intel X3100 384MB is any better. Seems like Quake III ran smoother on the desktop.
- Desktop has an NEC 3550A DVD±RW drive; 48x CD-R, 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD±RW. Laptop has an Optiarc AD-7563A; 24x CD, 6x DVD±R, 4x DVD±RW. It works, but I think I'll replace the drive after being spoiled by faster speeds and custom firmware (I actually had to manually set the drive to region 1 to play most DVD Videos, lol).
- Laptop keyboards blow and I want to buy a USB one.
- The LCD monitor is only 1280x800. Big disappointment when you're used to 1600x1200.
- USB 2.0 is good. Desktop only had USB 1.1 ports. Also there's an SD memory card port (attached to the USB bus), so I can quickly look at the Wii memory card without an external card reader

Ubuntu woes on the hardware.... not too many, all fairly minor:
- GNOME/KDE will think that you are displaying on TV-out (wtf, there's no s/video port) and the panels will stick to an invisible wall at 1024x768; despite the X server displaying the native 1280x800 and the ability to put windows in the area beyond the 1024x768 zone.
# Stuff to append to /etc/X11/xorg.conf to stop this.

- Wireless card needs a separate driver manually installed (ethernet works fine, otherwise keep Vista for a bit or use another computer to download it): http://www.datanorth.net/~cuervo/rtl8187b/
- Ubuntu is unable to control the backlight brightness. Full brightness even when unplugged, probably not good for the battery.
