The anatomy in most of the characters is pretty wonky.
The Alien drawing is pretty good, though. You should do vector art with the Tablet.. Tried Flash yet?

it's almost as if they're cartoons and not realistic interpretations

Well, my interpretation of 'Cartoon' and its style is an anatomically correct, but still not exactly realistic figure. Take Droopy, just look at him..
When in comparison to the 'modern' Cartoon, like this and this, the classic one is more definitive to the word 'Cartoon', in my opinion.. The style in the ones Smallhacker posted look like somewhat lower-quality versions of the Grim Reaper and the enthusiastic boy I linked you to above..

a dog with human legs and a head being larger than a body is not "anatomically correct" no matter how you try to spin it
