How would I go about forcing them to all use the green palette?

Use Map16 to copy the pipes, setting them to palette 5 and using those pipes instead of the standard ones.

... duh! I should have figured that out. Thanks alot!

For any who might be curious this is for a project I just started this week:

Super Mario Bros. DX Remix

My goal is to include every stage from SMB1, SMB2j, and SMB Special.

On the second page of the MAP16 editor, press Page Up/Page Down to choose which pipe color to change. Just change all to green. Ever tried reading the help file?

@Ailure: To the best of my knowledge no one has ever combined all three into a cohesive game, and I don't know of anyone having done anything with Super Mario Bros. Special. Also, I'm doing because I think it'll be fun to try to do it myself.

@Smallhacker: Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. However, I DID read the help file, but obviously not thoroughly enough to find what I needed. Sorry. Also, I was already late for work so I just thought I'd ask.

Just for the heads up, you will almost assuredly run out of levels if you plan to make them all accessible from the overworld.
There are only 94 levels readily available from the overworld, and unless my math skills (windows calculator ) have failed me, The original SMB uses 32 that would need to be accessed from the overworld.
Assuming that SMB2j contains the same number of levels, that amounts to 64. While I've never heard of Super Mario Bros. Special, I'm willing to imagine it is another take on SMB, putting you up to 96 levels; over the limit.

Actually, SMB2j has 5 extra worlds. But, I'll figure something out. SMB Special was a port/psuedo-remake made by Hudson for the PC-8801. Check it out:

Well, my best suggestion to you is to use each available level to it's full potential.
As lame as it sounds, the most feasible way to go about something like this would be to contain access to all "1-1" levels into three pipes, within a single level. This would allow you to use the 411 non-overworld-access levels to contain the 96+ levels required by this. The only issue with things from that point is the use of overworld events...

Well, I honestly think there is enough of those hacks already. Considering all they do is copying the graphics and levels from the original game and paste over SMW.

@Xeross: I may just cut the SMB2j content out altogether, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind. Thanks.

@Ailure: You miss my point. I honestly don't care if the exact same thing has been done one hundred times already. What I want out of this is the experience of doing it myself and learning all the utilities and resources that are involved. And I never mentioned anything about graphics. For all you know I might just be keeping the SMW graphics intact. Also, I don't know of any way to directly copy and paste the stage layouts from SMB1/2j or much less from SMB Special. Doing so would defeat the purpose of this project anyway.
