I am still a proponent of the Programming Forum. Considering the content of the board, we might have General Hacking and ROM Hacking alongside each other...

Perhaps, instead of just Mario Hacking, we could have hacking separated by system? NES Hacking, SNES Hacking, Genesis Hacking, N64 Hacking, GB/GBA Hacking.... And whenever someone comes up with developments for other systems (not really likely for a while, but meh), we can just add respective forums after a short trial period.

I would also like to add that I always thought the ROM Hacking Releases board was superfluous and stupid -- more confusing then helpful, really. Buuuut that's just one man's opinion.

Wasn't the ROM Hacking releases forum's existence tied to the approval system? That is, it was added to allow people to post releases without being approved. As we don't have an approval system, it's probably not needed (though, will the approval system be back?)

Well, wouldn't there be other features that should be added before a approval system? Besides we could always wait until it starts becoming a problem again...

I'm with SamuraiX. I don't think the Femine's/Officers merge would really be the best idea, as they tend to have very different themes.

But on the other hand, spreading things out too much isn't necessarily a great idea, either, especially for a new forum.

Now, if you guys could work in subforums (which I believe someone already suggested), that would probably be a better way to go about things.
It would also be helpful for the Art/Spriting and Writing/SF/SB problems. Have one global 'art' and 'writing' forum, and then have subforums for specific things like sprite comics and roleplaying.

Might also be useful for General/Craziness.

Well, yeah, it's not an immediate priority when the ROM Hacking forum isn't getting that many posts of any sort, let alone stupid ones...

I thought he was against the Debate forum being merged into Officer/Femine's.

Ah, it looked like you were against officer's being merged in Femine's. My apologies.

This man speaks so much truth it's not even funny. And I do feel ashamed for it not passing my mind.

By the way, I assume someone has taken a backup of the wiki, right? I don't really want 500 hours of my time being pissed away

I think SMW Hacking should remain separate from other Mario games- there are a ton of SMW-specific utilities and such that make it a "special case", as it were, as opposed to hacking say, SMB1 and CV1, where many of the same rules of NES hacking apply.

Well, the issue was more to just keep it all together - Mario hacking in itself is popular enough to warrant its own forum, just like how Pokémon hacking used to retain the same position.

I see no reason why we can't make SMW-related stickies labeled specifically so - for example, "SMW - Utilities and Info" or something like that. And then you can have a general "other" Mario category, for utilities and etc to do with those games, since , although not AS popular, they're still worth a mention, and thus can be easily grouped together without causing too much bloat.

I think SMW hacking is just different enough from the other types... and theres no reason to group "Mario Hacking" as a whole. Hacking SMB2 and SMW are very different from each other, for example...

Again I say adding subforums would solve a whole lot of problems.

Honestly, I like Xk's first proposal. And like a few others have just said, I'd like to see Brain Teasers too.

I wouldn't mind carrying over my "Name that Videogame" game here ...

I'm not sure if it was part of the intent or not, but I also saw it as a way to keep all of the releases in one place so they're easier to find.

The idea was that it allowed non-approved people to comment on releases. But, yeah. Having all the releases in one place and not buried under everything else is definitely a good thing.

I like something like such (I'm just giving generic names here):

Forum Issues: (about the operation and functions of the board itself)
-----Announcements (self-explanatory)
-----Help/Support/Suggestions (self explanatory)
-----Bug Reports (ohshit something is broken)

Hacking: (roms)
-----General Hacking (for general info on non-specific hacking, such as technical info)
-----Mario Hacking (for hacking of Mario games)
-----Other Hacking (for hacking of not Mario games)
-----Releases (demos, full versions, whatever)

Fun: (not serious)
-----General ("proper" thread general forum)
-----Craziness (lax rules general forum)
-----Game Threads (and the ilk)
-----SimBattle (just putting it here because it was on the original. no idea if there's interest)
-----Stories ("roleplay" board)
-----Entertainment and Sports (for people who like to talk about people who get a lot of money)

Serious: (serious shit here)
-----Serious Issues (life problems, needing advice, etc)
-----Female Board (for the girls and their issues)
-----World Affairs (politics, big world events, etc)

Gaming:
-----Video Games (video games duh)
-----Emulation (emulators of games)
-----Tabletop/Card Games (why not lol)

Arts:
-----Visual Arts (drawing, 3D, etc)
-----Music (self-explanatory)
-----Writing (stories, etc)

Staff Forums:
-----Staff Issues (for moderators to talk about board stuff outside the eye of the public)
-----Porn (because no staff forum is complete without a porn board)
-----Private (for mods to just have their own shit because they're mods and they can)

Locked threads:
-----Legendary Threads (great threads of old)
-----Shit Threads (not so great)

of course this is just what I'd do

I think subforums might be a bit confusing ;x reminds me of those crappy vBB places with like 5 forums and like 4 other ones within each of them, its like one ridiculously unneccessary chain just to get to one post or even check for a post. I like my forums all right where I can see em and straight-forward, thanks. Nothing really wrong with it, I just yeah. Eh.
