http://www.kafuka.org:8000/stream.ogg · stats

The idea has been discussed (and experimental runs done) before; having stumbled upon a usable command line streamfeeder at last, I've decided to go ahead and set up a 24/7 version of it. The quality is rather high (128kbps 44KHz stereo OGG Vorbis) compared to other web radios too (though this might have to be regulated if the usage goes up too far).

Currently, there are very few songs in this (since my upload is slow and I had very few things encoded as OGG before); however, this can be changed (potentially introducing an automated uploader even) if you proceed to suggest songs to add to the feed. All are either from video games, anime or classical.

Feel free to tune in anyway.

Stop being so damn negative

On another note, uploaded some more songs, counting ~20 now...

How about the 2A03 NSF archive? That would be ideal for internet radio... the archive itself is huge, but its footprint is about the size of an MP3.

I dunno how internet radio works though... All I know is you download a file that streams whatever the host is playing...

Unfortunately, the "idle loop" (i.e. what plays when nobody is actively feeding from elsewhere, which me or other people could do when there's a higher number of people listening) only takes OGGs. There are no particularly powerful pure command line Linux streamfeed clients to begin with.

Could always play that intermission song when nothing else is playing.

On another note, you don't open that stream with firefox (since the admin interface says somebody has been doing so for the last ~50 minutes) since it tends to just start it as an infinite download. Use foobar2k, winamp or any other streaming-capable media player.

Relics of the Chozo. That is an amazing album. It's already in OGG format. Grab that set.

I get mitiged results here. If I open the stream directly into Safari, QuickTime takes care of it correctly, but I only hear the first 1/3 second of a song. And if I use the URL in iTunes, it says it's playing, but nothing comes out...

Can't you use m3u instead of ogg?

M3U is not a music format at all, just a playlist... if I created one, it would just reference the OGG stream again. But, if you think it helps, here.

Yeah, that's right. I said that because the last time I used an audio stream, it was an m3u...
Anyway, too bad it's not working here...

KP9000: Link me to the individual files to add?

Trax: Get an OGG playback plugin...

Wouldn't it be more intresting to let someone act as a DJ once in awhile than playing from a predefined playlist? :p

That´s not too hard. Just get Winamp.

I was planning to do that, but it has few of a point if nobody is listening to begin with... xD

Yeah, I'm very fond of that song myself, which is one of the reasons why it was among the ones I initially put up there.

Again, KP9000, could you link me to that album?

The uploading must eat up a lot of bandwith though. How did you do this? I want to do it too unless I need a server for it.

The server itself has practically unmetered bandwidth, so it's not a problem (100mbit link)... uploading to it from home takes its time; with 128kbps per listener, you'd need a very good connection if you directly wanted to host such a stream from your home machine too.
