We are not going to have set levels like that. How many times do I have to clarify that now.

Might have specific worlds and themes available, but my plan was to let the level creation be flexible. So I want to avoid having levels too preplanned out.

Does anyone want this for this hack? It's original, I just made it, and if nobody wants it, I'll just give it to someone else, but I don't have any plans for actually releasing it to the public. I think it would go great with the first level [called Acmlm (???) or whatever] if the palette was changed to FG6

That BG looks very nice. I think it would fit the intended tongue-in-cheek theme of the hack more if you did something like adding those typical || eyes to bushes/hills, but otherwise, I'm all for putting it in.

edit: Since you are editing your post as well anyway, is there any chance you could map16ify the Cave Story background I linked a few posts above?

Well, while I generally agree that would be a good thing, I doubt, at this point, that we have sufficient resources (as in # of good graphics designers familiar enough with the SMW engine) to pull it off to that extent.

In order not to overwrite the status bar palette or the main FG palettes, I am going to have to use palettes 4 and 7 (it uses 2 palettes)

I have a suggestion for what to do to make anything using palettes 4 and 7 still look right in any level (such as goal points, midpoints, on/off switches, etc.), but it will make custom palettes for all BGs required, including default SMW BGs, because they will have to be copied into palettes 4 and 7

steps:
1. replace the shared palette with this: sharedpalettes.pal
2. for map16 pages 0, 1, 10, and 11, export them, convert them here at this link, and re-insert them.

Then for a normal SMW BG, copy palette 0 from another ROM into palette 4 and palette 1 into palette 7.

I can do this for you if you want, and then I can also insert the BG.

... and yes, I could map16ify the Cave Story BG, but not now because I have to go somewhere and won't be able to get to the computer in a few hours.

As I said earlier, I think that Goomba looks better without the drool. It looks like blood. XD

Also the Cave Story graphics works surprisingly well with SMW.

Those graphics are custom. Only the second outside (i.e. third) part of Outer Wall uses a (complete, in exchange) Cave Story rip.

Don't you think that everyone could download your hack and work on it himself/submit it and say, it is his work? Maybe you could pass the rom via PM's or MSN/AIM etc... It's not my hack, just a suggestion. BTW, smwedit, the BG looks good. Hope to see more progress soon.

I believe we have good enough relationships with any considerable location for SMW hacking on the internets to effect anybody who would do such a thing to be banished.
They'd win nothing. Also, the amount of secrecy required to counter such a thing happening would be contraproductive. (though I am considering to limit access to the ToS section of the uploader to previously approved users)

Yes, and it should contain several people to decrease potential bias. I figure the 3-5 most involved people would suffice.
