I generally agree, except the tower should be made more tower- and less castle-like. I've been thinking of a bland, menacing appearance like in my original mspaint picture for that thread.

I also would pick a different level number balance, placing about as many as you did outside and in the underground/switch path, but considerably more for the separate tower floors. Also, the presence of a town doesn't go to well with the "solitary menacing tower" thing...

edit: For the "outer wall" level, I'd have the right tileset, BGM and probably even level already done... let's take a pot shot at Cave Story, seeing as everybody here, pretty much, played it

Only having 13 levels will make the whole thing kind of short, which is why I opt for having more different levels per floor in the tower. Accordingly, everything outside could be stuck into the large overworld; underworld and all tower floors would go into a respective submap.
If we stick two floors into each tower submap, we wind up with a total 8 floors + roof (assuming the top submap would only have one floor and the rest would be used for cinematic effects)

Is the difficulty going to be really hard or just regular? Is there any room left? I might be able to help w/some music w/Addmusic, and make a few levels. I don't know how to make the music like sound perfect,but I've made a few songs w/it like the music from SMW2 before you get to the boss and the jungle level. I'm better at making levels though. This project sounds like a good idea if a lot of people help out, but I think the levels should get progressively harder.

Well, it's unlikely we are going to use addmusic for the music since SST is more convenient and enables us to convert from a variety of formats (then, I've been thinking to add SMW-native import, so addmusic-made stuff would become importable as well, effectively...)... regarding the space, I'd place a wild guess that this is scaleable, so whoever wants to contribute can get to without a problem unless we hit like 100 people.

My idea is that the project should be rather dynamic anyway, and is wary of setting certain design ideas in stone early on (such as how exactly the Overworld will be like). So yeah, I try to get as many contributors as possible... even if they only contribute with one level or so. As long the content isn't totally crap, that is.

At this point, we aren't really looking for any specific kind of level. We still don't have everything finished planning wise after all. As long you build levels using the default enemies and blocks until things are set more in stone, things should be fine.

I've been slaving over my computer making graphics for almost a year now, but I've yet to start on any real hacking. For the record, I'll be more than happy to contribute some graphics. I'll post some examples of what I have so far tomorrow (since my NIC card is screwed up) and if there are any specific graphic sets we need, I can design them and show sample pics.

I did upload my gigantic spiney and buzzy beetle graphics though...


My efforts at graphics were aimed toward a fusion between Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Bros. 3.
