Banland?
Must I speak the name of the one who must not be named?
Ory... nevermind. Saying it might curse the progression of this hack.

Heh, the higher detailed graphics don't look like SNES-style pixel art but more like GBA style. xD

Heh, that's what Icegoom was aiming for, I suppose.

Also, better palettes make a big difference.
I tweaked that a bit and got this:

That's for Buu-Huu's Team Hack, and we recently switched to a more detailed sprite palette. It helps a lot when making graphics.

Oh and, sorry for getting offtopic.

Hmm, maybe we should implement new bonus levels or games too. With their own music.

I thought about this the other day when listening to the targets theme from SSBM. xD Some level/minigame that you need to beat under a certain time, and also saves records.

Something to replace the 3 in row bonus game would be nice...

Looking at that screenshot with the Giant Blurp and the redrawn palette makes me wonder if Icegoom will ever come back.

Also, I'll be ripping a high-tech facility background from Shinobi 3: Return of the ninja master for the hack.

10 minutes in pencil and paper. (I probably could make a better version if I actually took my time...)

Either way, as you might see, a new overworld proposal, placing the whole thing on a floating island. Floating islands are a far too popular RPG cliché not to be employed in this.

I like, I like it.

I don't want most of the game to be in the tower. I assume we could probably have a few (2-3) worlds elsewhere that isn't on the island as well.

Well, it is "The Tower of Spatula"... at least 50% should take place in/on it

I agree. It would only be natural for a hack with the name Tower of Spatula to take place at least half in the tower itself.

I still haven't done much on my end. SMW hacking is more of a side project for me while I mostly focus on my Super Metroid hack. I'm trying to work when I can though.

1/3 to 50% sounds fine for me.

...it really depends on what kind of levels we manage to finish anyway. Besides becuse the hack is named after it, dosen't mean it have to be around it constantly. Some games are named after a quest item you maybe only carry for 10% of the game.

True. Or like in Metroid Prime's case, the game was named after the final boss which you only see at the very end. (though you can read a few scans about it earlier on)

How about having the majority of the game be on that island, while secret worlds are located elsewhere?

A bit of the tower should consist of a giant kitchen since spatulas are kitchen utensils.

Just a suggestion.

Mmm, that was my idea earlier.

Good thing to wonder is if you should start on the floating island or on the ground. Could always pull a cave story with waking up in the middle of nowhere.

Well since Mario isn't the main character, we don't need to worry about how he would've gotten to the island. I say pulling a Cave Story wouldn't be a bad idea.

Well, we still need to relate it to this board somehow...
...but yeah, opening narratives are for the non-lazy. A cavestoryish start will do.

That sounds like a good idea. Everybody likes Cave Story.

Could always rip the first room you start in from Cave story at this point to use as a starting point.

You could.

You could also replicate the entire first area in Cave Story like where you get the Polar Star but except, it will be replace by a Fire Flower that can break the blocks leading to Mimiga Village.

Fully automated conversion of Cave Story's first area song. Old; the percussion part of it is very broken but could be fixed with a bit of manual work.

Hehe, you should refine that song a bit. It's my favorite song from the game, even if it makes me a bit uneasy~

And a just a heads up.

Unless a catastrophic failure (probably not) happens to my apartment computer, the wiki will be up tomorrow evening. (GMT+1 that is).

I might go back and add anything noteworthy from the thread since the wiki went down...
