Posted by Squash MonsterI'm quite sure it would look worse animation wise. Sometimes pre-rendered animations can lead to a insane number of frames (See item 7). ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Many enemies in NSMB are pre-rendered. Basically what's not pre-rendered: Mario, Luigi, Bowser Jr., the bosses, Bowser, the fish, the giant mushroom. |

I had to come online and tell someone...
I am a jaded, cynical and mostly depressed 28 year old - but this game, this has made me fall in love with videogames all again. Have just played it for an hour (into the second galaxy now), and throughout I had this goofy smile on my face like I was a year old on christmas morning. If I didn't have to go to work tomorrow I'd be on it now. Outstanding and this is coming from an ex sega fanboy! |

Alrighty, my subpar Wal-Mart finally stocked it so I now have it. I will be chiming in later on and so far I've heard nothing but amazing things about it.
Except from Alastor. Who hates freedom and rainbows. EDIT: Ok I've been playing it for a bit and I'm loving it. Visually, it's very amazing. Very beautiful game that's easy on the eyes. The controls themselves are very easy to learn. Actually applying them to the game might take a bit to get used to but I think it will be alright in the long run. There were many times where I asked myself "If I jump this way, will I fall off and die?" when the answer was "No". I'm sure this will be a recurring theme throughout the whole game. Some areas look like you need, or can, go that way only to lead to your death while others aren't so obvious that it's ok to go that way. As for the linear part, Alastor is pretty right, but not right to criticize it. The way this game is set-up, it wouldn't work having the free-roam that 64 has. In fact, not only is NOT negative points off, but it's actually a positive thing. It's hard to explain, but if it weren't the linear way it is, it would actually kind of suck. That's just the way the stage format works. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this game. Also, the return of the Gunships/Gunship music. Yes. |

Okay I've played this game up to 48 stars or something like that.
I have to say it's pretty good, but I can't really decide how to rate until it's over. Some were trying to compare it to Mario 64. I think they're to different from each other to compare. Yeah, sure it has the same concept of running jumping and collecting stars, but it still feels totally different. But it definently beats Mario Sunshine, which wasn't a horrible game but still it could've been better. I'm still waiting on the totally remade version of Mario 64, but that might not happen considering they "remade" it on the DS. Anyway, I'm like SMG pretty well, and I hope it gets better... ____________________ MKWII Rating: 9999 VR 3 Stars |

Linearity is one of the things that made the 2D Marios so much fun, being able to just run forward like a maniac in Super Mario Bros or Super Mario World and hoping you'd survive as you pushed your reflexes to the limit was great. Bringing this type of gameplay back in three dimensions is a great step forward in my opinion. |

Posted by Pacdang, why buy the game then? that seems like it would just add to the frustration. I know I wouldn't want a game I was looking forward to playing just sitting in my room after thatPosted by DYno, before ____________________ |

to sum this up.
for a retro mario gamer, there are lots of nods and winks to previous games. It plays very much like 64 and sunshine (no suprises here, I'm just talking about basic control) but the levels are much more action oriented that exploration. I hate getting into linearity vs non. To me the only difference that will have on me is that I'll spend less time screwing around in the levels, so it will lower it's replay value, but it feels like the game itself is filled with a lot more fun sequences. This game does not suffer from not knowing what is going on, it gives you action packed sequence after action packed sequence, If you are looking for an expansive mushroom kingdom to run around and explore, this is not your game. This really is more retro mario, back to the old school gameplay, but that's not a bad thing. I don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread though, i think they COULD have had both, just like they could have had the autocam standard for casuals but also had optional camera control for those of us who know what we are doing and want a little more control. ____________________ Petition for Factor 5 game on Wii |

here are my pros and cons...
*** MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS *** PROS - Back to the classic Super Mario 64 controls with added spin jump from Sunshine - Some fantastic themes for levels after Sunshine was only sunshine. - New challenges in the form of comets (Daredevil and Shadow Mario) - Imaginitive Bosses - Old Skool Super Mario Bros gameplay - Amazing Soundtrack CONS - They removed the nearly unlimited camera control which was one of the best features of Sunshine - No Yoshi or Toadsworth and Bowser Jr has returned - Very linear gameplay (Old Skool Mario) after having removed the more sandbox design of SM64. - Bosses are too easy - Haven't yet seen the GAME OVER screen ************************ Seems to me that this generation Nintendo have sadly taken a step backwards with the way game cameras are controlled... Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine were 2 games in the last generation that has almost perfect camera control with the use of the C stick. Obviously the limitation of the Wii's lack of buttons may have prevented Nintendo from doing this but I dont like relying on automated cameras. Despite my rather limited complaints Im still enjoying this as much as I thought i would and certain levels have compelled me to play again cause theyre just that good! ____________________ Deviant Art Profile |
