Separate uploader with a 'link' URL like with posts that we can ->Copy Link and paste that in our posts.

If only one style of upload can be implmented now, I strongly prefer attachments. The main reason is that attachments have a better record of being useful. However, I think that the system should be designed so that uploading and attaching can be performed separately. This would make it easy to implement private message attachments, multiple attachment of the same file, and a future categorized(commons style) download feature. This is not to say that under such a system attachment would be inconvenient. Both upload and attachment could be performed in one step from the standpoint of the user.

Most importantly, any upload feature must work with client side scripting disabled. It is not unusual for me to have Javascript turned off for security or sanity reasons. If I had a browser or browser extension that supported per site script blocking, every faction, spinoff, or clone of Acmlm's Board that I visit would likely be on the block list.

There's this, but it only ends verbal stupidity.

I almost started a thread about that. I really like their position on ironic use of stupid sounding messages. Acting like an idiot is functionally equivalent to being an idiot.

Besides certain people in the past on this board have proved that you can write smart posts, and still be annoying as hell.

Cellar Dweller: What do you mean by said "record of being useful"? Also, if you separate uploads from attachments, what difference would the remaining actual "attachment system" retain from just sticking a link to a file on the uploader at the end of the post?

Ailure: And conversely, I've seen the one or other skilled hacker write with grammar that probably would be lacking enough to trigger the filter...

By "record of being useful", I was basically repeating what Smallhacker said. The only upload system that was really success was the post attachment system.

Attaching a file to a post in my proposed system would add a link, and possibly a thumbnail in the case of pictures, at the bottom of the post, but have the added ability to enforce policy regarding uploaded, but unattached, files. A possible policy would be like hard links in Unix: the uploaded file would exist as long as there was at least one reference to it. The references coming from attaching it to something, such as a post, private message, profile, or category in a download area. Of course it is not necessary to implement all of these attachment types from the start, but designing the upload system in the proposed way would make adding them easier in the future.

The seperate uploader system would be better though, because that way, instead of having to look through a bunch of posts to find the attachment, you could go to "http://acmlm.kafuka.org/upload/search.php" and search for the file you're looking for (hint hint bh ).

As there was a small majority for the separate uploader all the time, I went ahead with it.

First functional version, log in with your board account. Don't mind the dust.

Currently, public uploads are limited to 1.5MB. Further limitations like number of uploaded files might be imposed if it is abused. Aside from that, the usual considerations apply; what's forbidden on the board is also forbidden on the uploader.

Simple, and nice.

Something along being able to increase caps for specific users would be nice too. That can't be too abusable anyway, as it involves some bureaucracy.~

...

Holy shit.

That's it. You've proven it. You're a troll. Because NO-ONE is that stupid.

If you aren't, well, a post attachment is when you attach a file to your post, like an image or a text document, usually relevant to the contents of the post.

We've all known that Fugi is an idiotic troll-imitating moron. He's so stupid he doesn't even fall under the category "anyone".
