Icegoom: Does the Yoshi block give you a Yoshi? (most likely ) Are there more than one type of block for the different Yoshi colours?

Percentage done? Because I work so slowly, I was just planning on doing five main worlds, then a star and possibly special world. I have most of the first two worlds done and most of the star world. Remoga's offered to assist me with levels, although I'm not sure if that means he's going to build entire new levels for me or what. Anyone out there who's decent at making levels and isn't too busy with their own hacks, Lost World would get done a lot faster if you could contribute an area or two. I make a habit of modifying levels that others have made for me to make them fit in stylistically with what I've personally done. It's much easier for me to change something that already exists than to start completely from scratch.

The Yoshi block, I just changed the graphics for a block with a green Yoshi to make it white with green spots instead of a question block. I actually think I've seen another hack recently that had this idea independent of me, but I don't know which one it was. I'm not even sure I'm going to use colored Yoshies. (Is it even possible to stick their eggs in a block?) I've changed the shell powers around, (red = nothing, blue = earthquake, yellow = fire) so the colored Yoshies powers would be different anyway. I've actually considered coloring Green Yoshi orange or pink to signify that it's a local Lost World Yoshi and not the Yoshi.

The forest ground is a bit different from the swamp ground. (slightly different grass, different pattern in the dirt) I realized that the old dirt pattern wasn't the best-looking, so I was trying to use what I'd learned from NSMB in the new sets. I could still maybe lighten up the lines running through the forest ground.

The mountain terrain, the colors are a very greyish purple to try to match the background. I could go browner, but I'm really more concerned about the dark vertical lines stretching through. Here's what it would look like with them deleted:

I could fill in the grey space with a rougher texture, but Mario graphics seem to work pretty well with big patches of flat color.

I like the first texture a lot more than the second one. It looks more natural to me.

I do love your levels, Joshua. (I temporarily stuck Shining Twilight into my hack to try playing it with my graphics) If you've got the time to spare from your own hack, yeah, I'd love to work with you. The next world I'm doing will have a very loose glacier/cave theme, so if you've got any ideas I could use them somewhere.

I'd volunteer, but my older levels aren't that great, and those are all that I got publicly of my levels I've made. I'd make newer levels, but I still need to learn about adding graphics into SMW (ones I did sorta). But yeah, I won't mind if you say no.

glacier/ice theme?

Melting ice blocks with fireballs.
Use the "Monty Mole rolling rock" idea except make it a frozen ball of ice that squishes Mario.

most of my ideas involve ASM unfortunately.

How about an ice on/ice off custom block that turns slippery level mode on and off, complete with palette changes? I'm not sure if you can combine them, but each of those are easily installed with BlockTool.

And I already have those slated for my hack Go ahead and use my idea, my hack will never be as good as yours

I'd love to help out with levels, but unfortunately, my creativeness in the area is basically nothing

For comparison of the two screenshots, the second one is better, but for some reason I think it would look better with the lines in place, although not as dark, if that's possible.

Let's see... cave/glacier. I think I have a level like that in progress... *searches*
Ah yes I do have one:

Try something like this. Use a translucent mode for ice caves. Of course, use your graphics for it. Just remember, when using transparent, the brighter the color, the less transucent it will be, the darker, the more translucent.

"Glacier/cave" doesn't necessarily mean that all the levels will be both icey and underground, that's just the general theme of the world. Some will be pure ice, some pure cave, and then maybe a combo level or two.

I really like the idea of switching between icey and non-icey. I don't know enough about making blocks to create one that will change the palette and set the slippery flag, but I'm thinking maybe I could do one where you use pipes to switch between an ice side and a lava side of the same level. Maybe the ice side has a wall blocking the way while the lava side is clear, and then what's an uncrossable river of lava is solid on the icey side.

A translucent level will look quite nice with an ice cave. I wish there was a way to just make the ice itself translucent and not all the coins and blocks and whatnot, but it's acceptable.

It is too bad there's no way to make a snowball which gains in size as it rolls down a hill. I've had the start of a level sitting around for awhile which is a cave where you're being chased the entire time, be it Mega Moles, Monty Moles, Rip Van Fish, or Lakitu. (Heh, maybe I could throw Phanto in for good measure)

Sparks, tyty210, I'm not going to turn down any kind of help. Erm, PM me if you're serious.

You could have like a type of temperature cave, where it slowly gets hotter or colder throughout the cave. Such as ice for the beginning, then less...frozen ice, then normal, then heated normal, then a lava area... would that be any help as a sort of an idea?

Icegoom, I'd like to ask you a question. Will the final boss be really different? (will there be something else than the Koopa Clown Car?)
And are you going to modify the end of the game too? If you do it, your hack will be really outstanding and original. It would even rival with NSMB!

A different final boss? Here's my conundrum: I'd like to do a different final enemy than Bowser, but I still want to use all the traditional enemies which populate his army. Unless I can come up with some story reason for some other character commanding a bunch of Koopas, Hammer Bros., Buzzy Beetles, Goombas, etc., I'm probably stuck with Bowser. I don't much like the Clown Car battle, but there really aren't a whole lot of other options at this time. Who knows... I work glacially slow, so maybe we'll have other custom bosses available to us once I get around to making the final level.

In Super Mario Land 2, Wario was in control of Goombas and Koopas, as well as new enemies.
Who says you really need an explanation? They're evil, and they all hate Mario, that's enough.

Not all koopas and goombas hate mario, have you ever played mario party or the sports games?
they seem to hate bowser in those games....
maybe you could have someone use mind control, that would work out.

Okay sure, maybe not ALL of them hate Mario (also, Koopa the Quick from SM64), but I'm sure there are plenty that hate Mario no matter what, and would love to fight him no matter who they're helping. Super Mario Land 2 is a perfect example of this.

Wouldn't be the same without Bowser... but who says Bowser has to be in his clown car?

And I don't mean that oh-so-anticlimatic "grab the axe" Bowser either.

Not sure how limited your unique enemy-creating skills are though. You've said you excelled mostly in the graphics department, rather than coding...

That sounds a lot like what Nastilia does from Super paper Mario. I would like to see Bowser as a boss at least somewhere in the game. What I think you should do is something like in MegaMan 4-6 where Wily would manipulate others into doing his work without anyone even knowing that he was behind all of it.

In SML, Tatanga put the denzins of Sarasaland under some kind of spell or hypnosis I believe, and in SML2, Wario apparently had some kind of spell on Mario Land, which included many normal enemies normally seen on Bowser's side, and in Super Paper Mario, Nastasia used her own hypnosis to turn enemies to Bleck's side... but in Paper Mario, there's towns featuring many enemies that don't go under Bowser's reign, so it could be thought that not all of them are sided with Bowser, but even if they are they can just be given a little hypnosis.
