Anyone else pick up Halo 3? I got mine a little early, but I didn't go unline until just last night.

Notable balance changes for multiplayer:

-Plasma pistol can no longer be dual-wielded with.
-Plasma sword takes longer to recover from a swing, and can actually run out of energy.
-Plasma pistol can now be used to actually damage vechicles.
-Assault rifle can no longer be dual-wielded, although the SMG from the first game has actually returned and is dual-wieldable.

I'm still trying to figure out what to make of the new items. I'm hoping playing through the single player will illuminate the use for some of these items, because I can not figure out what the spike grenades are for for the life of me.

Also, the radar jammer and shield bubble are really fucking cool.

Uh, don't you mean the other way around? I'm not a big halo junkie, but I know that you couldn't dual wield with the assault rifle but could dual wield the smg, which was introduced in the second game.

Last view: 4850 days 		From how I understand it, the SMG was referred to as the "Assault Rifle" in the original Halo. However, Halo 2 removed this and introduced a weapon called the "Battle Rifle"; this could not be dual-wielded, but did have a scope and was able to be fired either one shot at a time or in 3-round bursts.

...I think? I might have made that last part up.

I never did play Halo 2 much. Played the first one with my friends a bunch, but the pistol kinda killed it for me.

Didn't play those last two games much, but I seem to recall enjoying the first more. Think it was Halo 2's low texture resolution or something that put me off.

You know, I think I have my guns mixed up.

I just noticed that your starting weapon can no longer be dual-wielded, not allowing you to get two guns just by offing another player.

Skreeny you are right about the battle rifle, but that's an entirely different weapon

All in all though, I like the new balance changes so far. No longer does the person with the sword go on a killing rampage until he gets stickied (or makes a stupid mistake), no longer does plasma pistol + any weapon rape all other weapon combos...

I REALLY like the new Spartan Laser weapon. You have to charge it for about 3 seconds (a long time in Halo time) while pointing it at an enemy, but after it's done charging it will basically obliterate whatever's in the center of your screen at the moment.

After working the midnight opening and earlier today, my friends and I just beat the Campaign on co-op. Ending was kinda lame, so I guess it's a good thing that's not why I play Halo. Time to start playin' me some multiplayer, I have to learn the maps and weapons and what-not.

Oh, and as for the guns-- the beginning weapon in Halo: CE was the Assault Rifle. In Halo 2 it was the SMG. Both guns are in Halo 3, the Assault Rifle is the default and not dual-wieldable, the SMG is dual-wieldable.

Having a great time with Halo 3 thus far. Beat the game on Heroic in one day with two person co-op and now I'm just trying to get better at lone wolf slayer. So far so good.

Anyhow, I beat the campaign on Heroic by myself, and most of the missions in co-op with my brother as well. Fun game, I can see myself playing through just the campaign a few more times, just to see what I can do. And of course there's the metagame to consider.

I've only played two matches in Matchmaking so far, and both were maps that I played in the beta. What are the odds.

Well, you can rest assured you will probably not be getting any invites from me. It's not like we're best buds or have even really talked before. But if you want to join the party I'm in sometime, you're welcome to. I ain't the best player in the world, but I'm at least decent.

I'm starting to appreciate a lot of the more subtle changes now. I'm also really starting to hate the plasma rifles, and really love the battle rifle.

My top 5 kills by weapon (ranked):

As you can see, I usually just use the ol' AR/Beatdown combo. I'm too lazy to go get other guns. Unless it's the Shotgun. The sniper rifle's only in there because of Shotty Snipers, which I hate, but am apparantly at least decent in.
