Well, that is a good idea, but I'd have to ask icegoom, hehe. I didn't draw these,
so yeah, I'd have to ask him. *Goes to PM right way*

Also, instead of using mushrooms to replace goombas, maybe you could use this.

If not, maybe a slime of some kind. And when you jump on it, it splats.

Nice screenshots, everything looks nice. to replace the pokey, you could have a baddie on top of spinie shells.

Speaking of Pokey, when I thought of him, the first thing that came to mind was a Totem Pole.

You have to rush if you want the secret, but not if you want the normal exit.
(Still need t ofix the status bar )

Nice. I like the look of the new keyhole - it actually has a distinct border on it.

Posted by Sparx

This part of the forest has been set ablaze (animated background palette.)

I'm sorry, but I really don't like the look of the trees. They look like an attempt to seem 3D gone bad. The level itself looks good, however.

Posted by Sparx

This level is ripped directly out of my old hack. I liked the concept.

Good, but I've been beginning to notice you don't really have a consistent style of graphics in your hack. The happy hills here just seem too basic compared to Confuzzle Fortress right after that. They just don't go well with each other

Posted by Sparx

The first area in the Confuzzle Fortress.

I think this is one of your best looking screens. It is very well detailed, and looks like it is rather challenging. Again, however, I just don't like the trees

Posted by Sparx

This area has 3 different ways to go. Backwards is just... A EMPTY HOLE. YEAH.

Now see, THOSE trees look good to me - like a good attempt to make them see 3D - but the palette is pretty meh here.

Overall, your levels show good thought and effort, but the graphics could use some work. (Not the graphics themselves, but the way you use them)

The tree trunks are all the same graphics, just with different palettes. They were designed to work with SMW's original Forest of Illusion palette, but could be done a lot better with custom palettes.

Ok... My computer crashed. And died. And I had to get a new one. And the file was lost... So I went here to give me inspiration for the new hack I'm working on... And saw Doritokiller's post on the blocks on vines bugging him. So I remembered he played it! So I asked him to dig around his computer for the copy I sent... and he found it So I have it once again, but now, I only have World 1 minus one level done.
I need to re-insert the sprites and re-design the sub-maps, and re-insert all the blocks correctly. Otherwise, this hack is being worked on again! So...yeah. That's the whole point of this post

I guess you made the Pokey's particles look like the Goombas to save tilemap space for Extra sprites?
That's what Icegoom did, mapped the Sumo Ligthning and the Birdo's Fire to the same tile.

Sparx, you sent me your hack too, before you PC crashed, remember?

I don't know how much of it was done, though... I think it was more in the earlier version...

EDIT: Ok, so I found it now but really can't tell how much is done... but anyways, I'll send you the IPS.

Actually, I mapped Birdo's fireball and the Firebar to use the same graphics as Yoshi's fire. Because of the way Sumo Bros.' fire is programmed, it has to use two tiles laid on top of each other vertically. But still, remapping redundant graphics to share tilemaps with other stuff is a great way to free up graphics space.

It looks nice, but I'm not digging the idea of enemy mushrooms. It wouldn't be too bad if the player was told right off the bat, but it'd suck to just find a mushroom and not know they're bad in this game.

Pokey looks crappy with gaps between the mushrooms. I like the idea of a bunch of Goombas (facing the screen ala SMB) standing on top of eachother, the top with a spiked hat.

I actually did that, but the Goombas are mushrooms too I guess I'll change the Mushrooms to something more suitable once I release a demo, which should be soon.
I'm about three levels from finishing World Two, and then I need to re-do the Star World and most likely parts of the Overworld, if not entirely. Otherwise, it's coming along nicely since the computer crash allowed me to completely re-do Confuzzle forset (Map and levels).
