What's wrong with my computer? Grr....
Everytime I try to type in a textbox in a program (ie. Bearshare or Lunar Magic) it won't let me type anything in, and instead makes the sound as if I was pressing a bunch of keys at once. Can anybody help me out? (P.S. We need a computer forum, and text toolbar thing for posts.)

Are you on Mac or Windows?

In either case, try rebooting, and see if that helps.

Make sure Sticky Keys isn't on (press shift 5 times).

I'm using Windows XP. I've rebooted several times, the problem just seems to stay there. So far, nothing seems to work. I thought about it being something to do with the Keyboard Accessibility thing, but none of the shortcuts were on.

Obvious solution: Make sure none of your keys are stuck (namely Ctrl, Shift, and Alt), nor any other oens

Your keyboard might be damaged; consider changing it

But then why would it only disallow me to type in those programs, but everywhere else? And besides, the keyboard worked fine with my old computer. It just started doing this on this computer, and heck, it still does work on the old one =/

Perhaps your keyboard is set to a strange mode?

I know that one type I got mad and started mashing as many buttons at once as I could, then I was able to type in them. But that was once, and now I don't know how to do it again. And what kinda mode could it be?

I'm grasping at straws here, but maybe a system restore would help?

I'm actually terrified of how far back it would go. I'd have to save everything somewhere first. Well, here goes =/

You can always try Keyboard Settings in Control panel and see if anything looks odd and out of place.

You can always choose which restore point to use, and they all have a date stamp on them. It shouldn't mess with your files, but any programs you have installed since that time will probably be gone.

That's what i was afraid of, but that doesn't matter. Because on this computer, I never made any Restore Points I only used them on my other one. Stupid me. Oh, and I found out I can't type in IRC if it's not in an internet window. And I checked the Keyboard settings, everything checked out okay.

Man, I want my other computer back. I can't even go on AIM without using express

lol blank cell
When you press the keys, does your computer make a popping sound? If it is, I would say it's Filter Keys, because we turn that on on the school computers all the time to piss people off. To turn that off, you either hold shift down for 8 seconds or go to the computer's accessibility options and uncheck the box where Filter Keys is.

Still not fixed. But turns out, I can type fine if I switch my IME toolbar thing to Japanese and turn it on. That's fine, for Lunar Magic. But not for anything else, as when I type in english, it switches what it can to Japanese.

Ad-aware, spybot, virus scan....

All else fails, get your Windows install CD and run a repair install (upgrade to the OS you are already using).

Did all those, none of them worked. But want to know what did work? Since I knew it had something to do with the Japanese IME thing, I looked through the Language thing in the control panel and switched it to US- English. Now it works!
