So where is a nice place to live? Specifically somewhere in America with a low cost of living and a high concentration of programming/tech/IT jobs. Not some hick town either, it would have to be some place with a city, like with those big steel building things, you know. Due to shit I don't feel like discussing and you don't feel like hearing, it would be wise for me to gtfo this state, as soon as I can, which rules Pennsylvania out. I hear its so lolexpensive to live out in Cali that I'm not even going to consider that, probably the same in any huge place.

Or would I be better off just job-hunting places that would pay to relocate? (like someone is going to pay to relocate someone who just graduated a two-year school with no actual work experience)

I pretty much want to gtfo, but don't know where I should be gtfo'ing too so I require assistance, and figure it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Try and get a job at wherever you're going first. That'd be my advice; that way you avoid cash loss during the downtime between when you move and when you start work. Debt sucks.

Furthermore, if you're looking for low cost of living you might want to live just outside of a major city. (I might be biased because I prefer this anyways, I hate city traffic.)

Obviously, out in Washington (the state) there's a ton of programming jobs needed. It's way too expensive to live in silicon valley, but you could get a job in the valley and live on the outskirts again. For a major city, Seattle wouldn't be too far away; you might even find a good spot in the city.

FYI, you should know that I've lived in Maryland my whole life, so I really don't have that much experience with moving, and none with moving across the country. MD's living costs are probably too high for what you're looking for. I'm sure there's tech jobs needed in DC / Annapolis / Baltimore, though.

For a large amount of IT jobs, Vancouver's a possibility. You know, British Columbia, Canada?

Hell, Microsoft is opening a huge office there in the near future, not to mention that there's high demand for IT pros

For a good technical career, you should go to Austin or Dallas texas. I know for a fact that their ITT programs can help provide you with the right education for a computer job. They offer hands-on training and great money. Austin has hundreds of computer studios/labs to choose from. As for the cost of living, I would recommend a residence in San Marcos but if you want a better way to travel, it's probably best that you live somewhere close to your job in Austin. If you have anything specific you'd like to pursue, give me a pm.

If you want to spend upwards of 5x other states for property tax, you can give Illinois a try.

Washington is a good choice in general.

Another interesting choice is Maryland. There are a ton of good jobs at the NSA. If whatever is making you flee your state won't show up on a military background check, it's a great choice.

This is something of a myth, since while it's pretty expensive to live on the coast, prices decay exponentially even a few miles from the coast.

I hear there's some good stuff out in Wyoming. Good prices for things, and I'm pretty sure that despite the main wilderness, there's some towns who like having people around for work!

I'd agree on the Maryland part, but the cost of living around here is quite expensive.

Actually I hear Arizona is a pretty cheap place to live... just through the grapevine though so I couldn't tell you for sure.

Iraq?

Skilled workers there get paid three times what they would get paid in the United States. It's not too dangerous now either.
