||bass doesn't mind a merge, but we've been talking about the technical side. Given the fact that this is still using the primitive Acmlmboard 1.92 database (no offense intended), it could take days to properly convert all the data; even then it won't be a 1:1 conversion so some data is sure to be lost simply because of incompatibilities. We're thinking if a merge of the communities were to happen, the simple solution would be to set up an archive of this board and have anyone that needs to, just register and post on what already exists of ||board; there's no e-mail confirmation needed either, so it's not that hard.

I must be one of the few people who think that none of the proposed drastic measures are needed. First, I believe that this board can be turned around, so number one is out. A restart will make this board seem more alien to those who might return to post here again, and if the accounts are restarted, then posting here will be more of a hassle too. I do not support a merger with ||board, because, with few possible exceptions, it is a cesspool of sarcasm, mockery, and trolling.

Most of needs to be done is:
- Start and participate in interesting discussions and encourage others to do the same. "interesting discussions" might include discussions about a ROM hacking project you are working on, artwork that you made, a homework question you need help with, software that you have written, a game you have discovered, a personal problem you have questions about, and so on
- NOT go on and on about how this board is dying, who was at fault for the splits, etc...

For staff:
- If anyone disrupts interesting discussions, such as by trolling, flaming, or acting stupid, stop them. If this means handing out bans, then do so without hesitation
- Implement fun and useful features

If we do such things, then this place will get better, and perhaps some of the members that went to other boards over the recent events will find it worthwhile to post here again.

If there were to be a merge, I'd support resetting posts from both sides completely, as opposed to trying to convert board2's posts or trying to drag these people into ||board as it stands. While I don't think a merge is necessary at all, if it did happen, I'd be interested in being part of the planning committee and figuring out how to make it work for everyone.

This debate has been going on for a while. Can someone make it clear as to who will ultimately make the final decision, and when?

I support the merger. I keep hearing about the board's security status, and since I'm no coder, I can only take people's word for it. I'm for a more secure board software, whatever it may be.

It seems just a shame to throw away something that many people call home. Then again, i'm one of those fucking packrats that wants to keep *everything*.

I dunno if I´d call this site "home" but I see it as very important as I´ve been here for several years. And it´s been fun. I´ve got to know new people and stuff too.

Move board somewhere that does not have Acmlm in the URL.
Make as many of people administrators as will accept:
- witeasprinwow

Make all these people have the same power level (anywhere from banned to full mod)

Start fixing the code.
Code new features.
Move the Uncategorized group of subforums up to second place, not last.
Permaban for major offenses:
- Flooding
- Registering just to advertise
- Posting illegal material
- Things that'd get you banned on ||board
One day ban for minor offense, two day ban for second minor offense, three day ban for all subsequent minor offenses.
Minor offenses:
- Flaming (off-topic attack on another user)
- Trolling (attempt to drive a topic to flaming)
- Spamming (posting short and irrelevant things)
- Drama-mongering (off-topic complaining about moderation)
- Being a non-mod and accusing someone of the above.

Having discussed this yesterday with blackhole, Ailure and cpu, I can say this is a pretty sound plan. All sides (board2, Justus, \|\|board) would basically have equal representation, so everything would balance out in the end. That, and now the board will no longer be basically staff-less during the later hours of the night, a problem that was present during this whole drama bullshit. I would also like to present the idea of a "panic button" system: basically, when stuff like what happened a few nights ago occurs, registration is automatically disabled and all current staff are temporarily adminned (~12 hours), to assist in cleaning up. ____________________ board2 - Jul - OC ReMix
