First off, what do you mean by a "restart"? A wipe would be bad for the sake of said ROM hackers and wouldn't really yield much use other than scaring even more people away. Anything else doesn't deserve grave and important-sounding words like "restart"... (somehow makes me think of a German comic I saw somewhere where a computer addressed its user saying something that could be rendered as "'Reboot' sounds so cold and unpersonal... let's call it a new beginning!")
I meant wipe it clean and start again. I know that the rom hackers need data and that is why if we go through with it we leave a note for them before we restart, proclaiming to save any valuable info they need before this happens. Hell, we have archives of previous board incarnations, we can have an archive of this here as well, perhaps. If we did do this option and things didn't turn out well... er, we can always do option 1 and quickly end it before more drama ensues.

Secondly, why are you so concerned about the community getting some kind of, in the one or other way, "leader"/tyrannical overlord who gets to dictate his opinion? I see no reason why an administration of equals, given an amount of guidelines as a "constitution" agreed upon in the beginning, should not work; it also would minimize the chances of such a case repeating.
I never said have a "tryannical overlord" dictating. We get someone who can manage the staff altogether and make sure nobody does things because they hate the user. The leader, of course, sets guidelines to banning and such and would prevent cases of "I hate so-and-so, therefore he is banned" and I really want to just see everyone enjoy the message board (if one is around). I never said a group couldn't be one leader, but we need someone to get the ball rolling and see how the community would feel about taking everyone at face value.
Let's put it this way: if I didn't step up to the plate and offer this, who the hell would have? A leader isn't one that rules everything and tries to keep all the power to himself, its one that trys to get things done right.

Does building in backdoors, truncating the DB multiple times and flooding 400MB into the PM table not count as board exploiting?
Building in backdoors was when Xk was in power and were for his use only really, and truncating the DB multiple times was just trying to piss you off. I was meaning people that would just exploit for taking passwords and such (see: roger, Spikeman). Those ones banned previously (Xk, Sonicandtails, etc) did exploit the board, yes, but if the board was actually better to their liking (as in, they could enjoy themselves while everyone else does as well) why would they need to do such a thing anymore? With a system that makes sure that we do things by face value, the would-be-staff will need to be talked to as to make sure they understand that this will be a fresh start for everyone and just get over the past. Any more exploiters would be banned on the spot of course.

As stated, you don't have to do this. The "leader" is someone stepping up, saying "Hey, let's fix the problem now" and this occuring. I'd rather have the community decide if this would be good. If they don't, the board can go boom. If they decide to do it, we do it for a bit and if it all goes wrong take it down. Trial run, if you will.

I say we try it. I mean, what the hell is there to lose? The board? People have already stated to shut it down and move on. Let's see how it goes with a different mindset first before doing that. I mean, we are still all here, right? There has to be some hope left if we are still here posting.

Last view: 5245 days 		We should attempt one final try on it. Poll the people and see what works, really. I don't see any need to either continue the way things are right now, or just close the board down entirely because of bias against XKeeper or anyone else (You know I'm right).

CPU has the right mind on the idea of a board that everyone can enjoy. I don't see a problem with letting them back here if we create a new incarnation with the whole board and starting from a clean slate. It might be better that way if we sidestep some of the problems that sparked it before. I won't go into detail, but most of you are aware of what those are, as are the ones who matter that I'm really stating this to.

I'd like to see a bit more effort put into the board before declaring it dead. Hopefully cpu can help the community revive, as no one else really wants to help out. : /

Last view: 2118 days 		I'd say the board in it's current state is pretty good! There's been less obvious joke accounts and blatant flaming since the "bomb".

Acmlm and Emuz are decent people. They were just too inactive to honestly be that relevant now.

Xkeeper? I do praise his technical knowledge on the board's code. Although, his random behavior may have been an issue at times.

I'll disagree with the idea of a restart. That tends to end up only scaring more people away. Dedicated users like myself are one exception. We're already on our '4th' incarnation. And there's enough spinoffs as it is since older versions of the board software are free to download/modify.

Archive only the ROM hacking forums, delete the rest, and just give a link to rhdn.

Destruction is the only way to end this cleanly. Otherwise you get people who are controversial of the current leader, and already a "no-leader" system as now has proved to be ineffective.

I don't really care weather or not the boards are merged, but it'll probably end up with more work than anyone's going to bother with the databases being merged. If it happens, we'll probably just have a boardhole archive on board.acmlm.org and just post (register if needed) on ||board as it exists now. If the majority of you want a merger, the remaining that object to it will probably just go join Justus 2 anyway (hell, there's already quite a few users moved to Justus 2).
